We work with neurodiverse and physically diverse students. RideAbility’s vision began when watching the power of a horse with a child unable to walk with cerebral palsy. He was given an opportunity to move freely and independently while on the back of a horse– an approach called Therapeutic Riding which is supported by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, P.A.T.H. Watching tha

t child’s physical and emotional connection with the horse, and the way the child’s treatment accelerated, we knew we had found our calling. Combining our passion for riding and teaching therapeutic riding to special needs individuals along with our life-long love of horses, RideAbility opened in Clover SC in 2012 . We bring the benefits of therapeutic riding to individuals with a wide range of disabilities to South Carolina. At RideAbility, we offer a wide variety of Equine Assisted Services designed to empower children and adults with diverse disabilities, as well as veterans, on their journey toward greater independence and fulfillment. Our mission is to promote physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being through transformative power of equine assisted services and learning. We provide therapeutic riding and equine assisted services and learning for children and young adults with autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, PTSD, anxiety, and various other diverse needs. Wendy Schonfeld the Director of RideAbility is a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, Advanced Special Olympics Equestrian Coach and a Doctor of Chiropractic. These combined skills allow her to offer a unique perspective as well as absolute competency directing and teaching Therapeutic Horseback Riding at RideAbility.

⛳️ What an incredible day at our Annual Golf Classic! ⛳️

This year, we were proudly Teeing for Tuition Assistance, raising funds to help families access the life-changing services offered through RideAbility’s Therapeutic Adaptive Riding Program. Because of the generosity of our community, more students will have the opportunity to experience the confidence, growth, independence, and joy that our horses help create every day.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the amazing golfers who came out to play, laugh, and support our mission. Your participation makes a direct impact on the children, young adults, veterans, and families we serve.

To our sponsors, thank you for believing in what we do and helping make this event possible. Your support allows us to continue opening our gates to families who otherwise may not be able to participate.

A very special thank you to Jared and Nicole for the countless hours of planning and preparation that went into making today such a success. Thank you also to Michael for his dedication and hard work behind the scenes. We are incredibly grateful for our amazing team members—Pam, Theresa , Wendi, Pam and Karalynn and everyone who volunteered their time and energy throughout the day. Thank you to our powerhouse mama Ladonna for the incredible food we all got to enjoy. It truly takes a village, and we are blessed with the very best.

From the putting green challenges to the 50/50 raffles, mystery gifts, silent auctions, and all the fun shared throughout the day, there were smiles everywhere. More importantly, every laugh, every swing, and every donation helped create opportunities for families who need tuition assistance to participate in our program.

Today was about much more than golf. It was about community. It was about giving back. It was about making sure that every child and family has the opportunity to experience the healing, learning, and growth that happens at RideAbility.

Because of you, we get to do what we do. I’m always emotional after big events. It makes me stop and express my feelings.

There are moments when we stop and look around RideAbility and realize that none of this happens because of one person. It happens because of a village. A family. A team of people who pour their hearts into our mission every single day.

To our volunteers, coaches, team leaders, and supporters—thank you.

Thank you for showing up on the hot days, the cold days, the rainy days, and the long days. Thank you for believing in our students and seeing their abilities before they see them in themselves. Thank you for walking beside them, encouraging them, celebrating their victories, and helping them through their challenges.

You are the steady hand on the lead rope, the reassuring smile before a rider enters the arena, the cheer from the sidelines, and the heart behind every success story.

What our students accomplish each week is remarkable, but they do not do it alone. Behind every rider is a team of people who love them, support them, and help them believe that anything is possible.

The truth is that RideAbility is not about horses, arenas, ribbons, or programs. It is about people. It is about connection. It is about a community that chooses to show up for one another and create a place where everyone belongs.

We feel incredibly blessed to walk this journey with you. The love, dedication, kindness, and commitment you bring to our program changes lives every single day.

It’s a wrap! What an incredible weekend at the Special Olympics South Carolina Equestrian State Games. ❤️❤️❤️🐴🐴🐴

“Let me be stronger than I was yesterday.Let me reach for my goals with courage and determination.Let me celebrate every step forward, And always be proud of my effort.”

Equitation was our final class of the weekend, and our athletes truly outdid themselves. Throughout the competition, they took the lessons they learned each day and applied them in the arena, growing as riders and equestrians with every ride. By the time they entered their equitation classes, they demonstrated the hard work, determination, and skills they had been building all weekend long.

Special Olympics is about so much more than ribbons and placements. It is about practice making progress. It is about being better than you were the day before. It is about working to your fullest potential, embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and celebrating growth in every attempt.

This weekend, we witnessed courage, perseverance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and heart. We watched athletes step outside their comfort zones, trust their equine partners, and achieve goals they once thought were impossible.

We could not be prouder of each and every athlete. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and willingness to keep learning and growing. You inspire us every day, and it is an honor to be part of your journey.

Day 3 of the Special Olympics South Carolina Equestrian State Games was all about courage, teamwork, and achievement!

This morning, our athletes, coaches, and incredible equine partners took to the arena for their trail classes. Riders demonstrated amazing memorization skills as they remembered and navigated their courses, showed strong partnerships with their horses, and worked through each obstacle with determination and focus.

What many people see as a trail course is actually so much more. It requires planning, problem-solving, communication, confidence, and trust between horse and rider. Today, our athletes showed just how much they have learned through months of hard work and dedication.

We are incredibly proud of the courage and bravery our riders displayed as they stepped into the arena and gave it their all. The growth in confidence, self-esteem, and independence was evident in every ride. Whether they earned a ribbon, achieved a personal best, or simply faced a challenge with determination, every athlete was a champion today.❤️❤️❤️

Day Two of the South Carolina Special Olympics Equestrian State Games is in the books!

Our athletes started bright and early this morning, preparing for divisioning and their first time riding in the arena at State Games this year. As expected, there were plenty of nerves, but with the encouragement, guidance, and unwavering support of their coaches, our riders stepped into the arena and showcased their hard work, determination, and incredible riding skills.

The afternoon brought pole pattern and barrel classes, and our athletes truly shined. They achieved personal goals, learned new skills, faced challenges, made mistakes, and grew from every experience. That’s what competition is all about—not perfection, but courage, growth, and learning along the way.

We are so proud of every athlete and coach. The way this team supports one another, lifts each other up, and stands together through every success and challenge is something truly special. The friendships, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display today were just as meaningful as the ribbons earned in the arena.

Tomorrow brings trail and equitation classes, and we are excited to see what our athletes accomplish next.

Opening Ceremony is always one of the most special parts of the Special Olympics State Games. The excitement, energy, and anticipation of the weekend ahead fill the arena as athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers come together to celebrate what is possible.

We were so proud of Sydney for reciting the Athlete’s Oath and representing our team with confidence and grace. What an incredible honor and moment to remember! We are always so grateful to the York County mounted police who makes our opening ceremonies so special.

The evening was topped off with a fun-filled dance party that got everyone moving, laughing, and ready for competition. The smiles on our athletes’ and coaches faces said it all. Coach Katie did an amazing job interpreting the ceremony with ASL.

We were also thrilled to have Braden, our Team Cheer Captain, join us to cheer on his teammates. Even though he isn’t competing this weekend, his spirit, encouragement, and support remind us that being part of a team is about so much more than competing—it’s about friendship, sportsmanship, and lifting each other up. Thank you Special Olympics South Carolina, Kelly and Amanda for making this possible for our athletes. Thank you to Judge Carey for being such a wonderful part of this event with your huge heart.
