Philly was amazing. It's been a minute since I've been to a festival this size and my body reminded me why I stopped going. 😣

It was great meeting new people, running into the home team, and catching up with my Philly folks.

A few things....

1. Grown men screaming "Hovy Baby" at the top of their lungs is unacceptable
2. Badu be slumming live!
3 Women know Shawn Carter's lyrics, even the deep cuts.
4. Saw a lot of infants out there.... unacceptable

Today marks a tremendous milestone in my musical journey. Today, 27 years ago was my first time in a studio producing for an artist.

I met Maseka at through my roommate Val and she told me she rapped. Maseka was quiet, creative and different. Her flow was fast and she was very intentional about the raps she wrote. For me on the other hand..... I was still figuring out my equipment and sound but I had my dorm room rocking.

We found a few beats that she liked and she said she wanted to get in the studio. I said I don't know any studios and she said her cousin owns a studio.

Her cousin happened to be the legendary

BuBu was quiet, chill yet standoffish but moved around the studio like a professional and made sure we were locked in and sounding as good as novice producer and artist could sound.

Bubu was the creative homebase for some of DC, MD and VA first independent street labels.

This day put in motion my entire musical career. I haven't looked back since.

IWC has a rich history in horology and rolled out the red carpet for enthusiast and collectors. I'm a huge fan of the Portofino and it's on my list of joints to get in the future.

It's disturbing that there is decades worth of data to show that the record industry is not for the artists yet these self proclaimed "industry consultants" and "industry experts" keep advocating and educating artists to get record deals, create hit records to get deals, network their way into the industry but none of them educate you on how to make money each day/week from your music.

That's concerning.

History is the biggest teacher.

Attended the opening for .listening.bar , the new Hi Fidelity listening experience in DC.

Overall it was a great experience in an inviting ambiance with down to earth people.

Of course the highlight for me was that I got to listen to various albums on the JBL Studio Monitors (Model 4435) and they sounded phenomenal. They could even be cut down by a few decibels in the venue and still sound perfect.

The 4435's were produced from 1981 to 1996 and to hear these 30 year old monitors was an amazing experience.

The Architects [ + .j.throwback ] hit me and said they needed my sound on their album.

First and foremost, I'm extremely honored to get the call to work on their album. Secondly, I immediately cut on the MPC 3000 and cooked up a beat and energy that was missing from the album. 🎛️🎚️🎹

They are coming with high level bars , concepts and quality songs. And they blew me away with the feature they have for the song. 🤯

They are rappin rappin!!!

This session bonded us for life. In the words of "why not us". 🤝🏾

On October of 2025, I got a call from Duane aka Mecca and he asked me to do a project with him. [Sidenote: I met MECCA through almost 15 + years ago but we never worked together on a project. ]

This time when he asked me about doing a project together it felt different. We talked about the vibe, the sound, and timeline. And when we talked about the timeline, thats when he hesitated. I didn't think much of it and I started crafting beats specifically for the project.

The project was complete in Feb and who knew it would be his last project while he was breathing? MECCA knew...

Over his career, MECCA has released 50+ projects and I'm honored to create the last sonic chapter of his music career and his life in the physical.

I've been in constant thought about this experience and it's been one of the hardest but therapeutic of my career because I needed that project more than he did. Grieving the loss of my father who's birthday was on the same exact day of MECCA'S memorial.

One common message that everyone spoke about at the memorial was his ability to help people and here he is helping me after his death.
