Bones BJJ Academy We are a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy located in Clifton, NJ striving to create a friendly mat environment, while giving World Class Jiu Jitsu instruction.

Bones Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is an affiliate school of Unity Jiu Jitsu in NYC. We invite you to hit the mats and receive world class instruction, to improve (or start forming) your Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills, or just to pick up self defense knowledge with our very own decorated, and world ranked black belt, Devhonte (Bones) Johnson. Our goal is to build good people on and off the mats through world class instruction with a friendly mat environment. Jiu Jitsu is for everyone and we enjoy teaching people from all walks of life.

Number 1 Ultra Heavyweight Brown Belt Vinny Corrado

When Vinny first came to the academy he had a goal, and he knew he needed the right guidance to get to where he wanted to go. Fast forward a few years and we’ve turned first round exits into Major Ibjjf titles in the adult brown belt division. Vinny could easily decide to do masters but instead challenges himself in the adult division.

We have more goals to check off the list but this deserves to be celebrated 🔥🔥

Vinny we are happy for you and very proud!

No days off, especially when the team has goals to chase.

Meaningful Labor Day work with the team. Everyone pushing off the holiday, obligations for later in the day. Coming together, pushing the pace, and sharpening each other for what’s ahead. Different divisions, same mission: show up prepared and ready to perform our best at No-Gi Pans and the AIGA Global Series.

The work is hard, but nobody does it alone.

Iron sharpens iron. We’re coming. ⚔️

Hard work, works

Age is just a number, come in set goals and chase them regardless of your age

Inspired by gentlemen like these two right here they come in 3-4 days a week, they work with the young guys and they never make excuses or give just hard and consistency

Starting Jiu-Jitsu can already feel intimidating for both men and women. However generally men have the luxury of having more training partners their size to work with. For a woman, having their first experience training be primarily with men who may be bigger and stronger can make that first step even harder.

That’s why we are proud of and believe our Women’s Only Class is so important.

We’ve created a safe, welcoming environment where women can train freely, build confidence, and learn alongside partners closer to their own size and strength. It’s the perfect introduction to Jiu-Jitsu, giving women the space to learn at their own pace, become comfortable on the mats, and discover everything this sport has to offer.

No experience is necessary. Just show up, take that first step, and grow with a community of strong, supportive women. 💙

This is what it is all about.

We put genuine effort into serving every person who walks through our doors to the very best of our ability. Whether you’re a longtime member, a visitor dropping in, or stepping onto the mats for the first time.

Everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued.

Great Jiu-Jitsu matters, but so does the environment in which it’s taught. We’re committed to building a strong community where people help one another improve, train safely, and leave the Academy better than when they arrived.

Thank you to our coaches, members, and visitors for continuing to make Bones BJJ such a positive place to train. The people are what make this Academy special.

🚨 NEW CLASS 🚨

Starting May 7th!!

We’re excited to relaunch our Women’s Only Jiu Jitsu class!!

This class, isn’t just about learning techniques. It’s about building confidence, and community for the women who are already a part of Bones BJJ as well as those who aren’t, but are still looking to learn in an environment just for women.

Whether you’re completely new or already have experience, this class, this space, is designed for you. This class will be designed to be a place where you can challenge yourself without pressure and learn at your own pace.

Jiu Jitsu teaches more than self-defense—it teaches resilience, patience, and belief in yourself. You’ll leave every class a little more confident than when you walked in.

If you’ve ever thought about trying it, this is your sign.

Come train, come grow. 🥋✨
