This! I pitched batting practice until I was 3ish months pregnant and my daughter Maya was just shy of her second birthday when I returned to the circle. The open league at Midlakes remained my competitive home until retirement at the age of 35. Now I get the privilege to hang out with my father every week and watch new generations of ballplayers each summer!
Women are incredible.
When I heard Jordy was nearly three months pregnant while competing at that level, my first thought was simple:
Superwoman.
I found out I was pregnant with Maddie while playing professionally in Japan. I wanted to keep playing, but a blood clot in my uterus forced me to stop.
Years later, one of the most empowering things I’ve ever done was come out of retirement and train for the Olympics with a 10-month-old and a 2½-year-old at home.
Somewhere along the way, we’ve been told that having a baby is a roadblock.
It’s not.
For so many women, it’s the beginning of a version of themselves they never knew existed.
Motherhood doesn’t make you weaker.
It makes you tougher.
More resilient.
More aware.
More grateful.
More driven.
You learn how much you’re actually capable of when there are little eyes watching you chase something hard.
To every mama out there chasing a dream while raising babies:
Keep going.
Your story isn’t over.
It might just be getting started. ❤️
