A Look Back in Time

Step back to July 14, 1929, and take a look at this historic newspaper column from The Miami News highlighting the early days of Clewiston and its golf course.

Published in 1929, just as the Clewiston Golf Course was becoming part of the community, this column offers a glimpse into Clewiston’s early history and the beginnings of a golf tradition that would continue for generations.

Nearly a century later, the Clewiston Golf Course remains an important part of our community and its history.

We’re proud to share these pieces of the past and give our community a chance to discover the stories and traditions that helped shape the Clewiston we know today.

Today, we’re pleased to share this special photo featuring Juan Mata alongside Robbie Rush, our PGA Director at the Clewiston Golf Course. Both play a role in supporting the local golf community, from developing opportunities for young golfers through the Clewiston Youth Golf League (CYGL) to helping keep the traditions of the game alive in our community.

This Friday, October 30, the Clewiston Golf Course will host the Central County Water Control District Tournament, bringing golfers together for another day on the course. We appreciate the individuals and community partners who help make events like these possible and continue to support golf in Clewiston.

Thank you to Kelsey Mata for sharing this photo with us and allowing us to celebrate the people who contribute to our local golf community.

A Look Back in Time

For those who enjoy the history of the Clewiston Golf Course, here’s a special look back at “How to Play the 1st Hole by the Local Golf Professional,” published in The Clewiston News on July 25, 1930.

Just one year after the Clewiston Golf Course was established in 1929, golfers were already reading tips from the local golf professional and enjoying the course as part of life in our community.

Today, more than 90 years later, every round played at the Clewiston Golf Course becomes part of that same history. Each time you step onto the course, you’re not only enjoying a round of golf—you’re taking part in a tradition that has been part of Clewiston for generations.

We’re proud to share these pieces of our history and give golfers a chance to look back at the people, stories, and traditions that helped shape the course we enjoy today.
