Apps are great for reps — puzzles, quick games, tracking your rating. What they’re not great at is feedback: telling you what to actually focus on next based on your specific games. That’s the piece most beginners are missing. You can have five chess apps on your phone and still be stuck, because none of them are watching what YOU did wrong last game and telling you what to fix — they’re just giving you more content and a number. A path means a real person looking at your actual games and giving you immediate, specific feedback, not just another drill.

Hi everyone! Wanted to share something I’ve been putting a lot of work into.
I’m Tom — a FIDE-rated chess player, and teaching the game is honestly one of my favorite things to do. There’s a specific moment with beginners where it just clicks — where they stop randomly moving pieces and start actually seeing the board and planning ahead. I love getting to be part of that.
Starting July 28, I’m running a 6-week beginner chess class, live on Google Meet, Tuesday evenings. Complete beginners are totally welcome — whether you’ve never played a single game or you know the rules but keep losing pieces for free and aren’t sure why. It’s a small group, only 10 spots, so you actually get real feedback instead of just watching a lecture.
