Not all benching or lifting for that matter should be heavy. Working to move a light weight with as much speed as possible will ingrain the idea of moving fast (in the muscles) with a heavier load. We use the bands to accommodate to the resistance curve keeping the tension on the lift throughout the whole range of motion.

Kettlebells are a great multi use tool. Swings, squats, deadlifts, Olympic lifts.....you name it, it can be done with a kettlebell. We typically incorporate them into our program via accessory and conditioning work, but they can be a great learning tool for building strength in beginners.

Single leg hops are a great way to work on force development both creating force and absorbing load. This translates to stronger lifts, higher jumps, and greater running power. This drill should focus on turn over speed and not height. The goal is to quickly absorb the landing and rebound up onto the plate. Give it a shot on your next speed/technique day.

Box squats vs squatting to a box

A box squat should involve a sit back not sit down cue, with the glutes and hamstrings yielding as you sit. Feet should be as wide as possible as long as the knee can get as wide as the foot. On the box the torso should remain braced while the legs (glutes hams quads) relax. Note the shin angle should be close to 90 degrees (as pictured). Re-engage by driving through the heel. Motion should be upwards not rolling to the toes. Try to imagine a wall right in front of you that you can’t go through.
