IntroRow is an introductory experience. Young athletes will learn the equipment, protocol, maneuvering, and terminology associated with rowing as a crew while developing skills and strength to control the boat both on and off the water. IntroRow does not compete or travel as a team. The 9th - 12th coed competitive team competes separately as crews of 4 or 8 rowers in either a novice (first years) or varsity (experienced) classification. Each boat is under the developing leadership of a unique crew member position known as the coxswain. Practices are conducted on the water or on land and are subject to weather conditions. Endurance and strength training are developmental to performance and includes running and callisthenic exercises generally done outdoors. Weekend Regatta travel and accommodations for away river venues are arranged as a team. CFJ is pleased to have on board the experience of Coach Connor Sawyers and Coach Matthew Houser. The coaches along with assistant coaches provide on water crews with the aide of safety boats (launches). Swim testing is required along with complete on line waivers and registration. Pre-season training is encouraged. To become involved with rowing at the team level or to learn more please email [email protected]
