"Just looking at it, it was kind of like, well, let's attack them [the Angels] with two of our better right-handed hitters right out of the chute, and I've been thinking about looking at José in the two-hole, chasing the three-hole for a little while anyway. So I felt today might be the day to try it out..."

He batted second 19 times in 2025, slashing .261/.316/.493 for an OPS of .809.

"Obviously, we've been running hot in our bullpen through the middle of this 13-game stretch, so we needed some innings, so we recalled Codi Heuer. He can give us multiple innings. He's been throwing the ball really well. Unfortunately, it moves Franco Aleman... Franco threw the ball excellent. Two great outings. I mean, we threw him in the eighth inning, you know, two-run game. We had that kind of confidence in him. So we know Franco will be back to help us win a ton of games. It's just the position we're in right now. We needed some innings today, given where our bullpen is. Codi will be with us, which we're really excited..."

"Angel was off to a great start and had kind of a rough eight to ten days here leading up to tonight, but to see him get back to who he is, and that's looking for the ball out on the plate, drove the changeup for a homer and just got robbed on the second one. Just great at-bats and continues to put the ball in play... Angel had a huge night at the plate."

Martinez went 2-for-3 with a home run. He nearly had another, but it was robbed by Jo Adell in the Angels' outfield.

Stephen Vogt has returned and will be in the dugout tonight for the matchup against the Angels.

Great news. Vogt had missed the last two outings due to illness. Tony Arnerich, as acting manager, won his first game last night, 7-2, in the series opener.

"That was as good as you can pitch right there. He's attacking, minimizing pitches. Getting him through sixth and getting him through the lineup the third time....What a great opportunity for him. He ran into some trouble there in that last inning. Sean had two hits off him already. It's a big moment for Joey to get in there in that situation and get it done. So, just couldn't be more happy for him, and now you build off that. So really impressive."
