Happy Birthday, Andy Negra! The local legend is turning 102 today. He plans to receive friends and family at his home this weekend to celebrate. Fans can read more in the June 4 copy of the White County News.

Let's introduce our next committee member. We appreciate our committee members who volunteer their time because enthusiasm drives their efforts

Barbra Summers

Barb is a retired educator who spent her first 20 years as a southwestern girl and later where Army life deemed necessary. She was a cantor at Fort Mac, is a member of the Monroe Art Guild and St. Anna’s Church. She also is a member of On Stage and has performed in several plays. She still tries to convince anything she plants to grow and hopes to master Mah Jongue before she dies. She has one incredible daughter, two grown grandchildren, and a couple of fur babies. Being part of the golf tournament is a joy and a daily reminder to be grateful for my life.

We'd like to introduce our next committee member. Our committee is comprised of dedicated volunteers who genuinely love their roles.

Linda Deyton
Linda is a native of Habersham County and has been on the committee with the Darrel Chaney Invitational Golf Tournament for United Way of White County for 18 years. She helps co-chair the Companions Outing, helping coordinate and host the celebrity companions the day of the tournament.
Linda has served as Accounts Payable and Payroll Processor at Truett McConnell University for 14 years. She is deeply grateful for the university’s continued support, which has allowed her the opportunity to donate her time all these years.
Linda has enjoyed sharing this event and what it means to give back to the community with her daughter Katie since she was 6 years old and looks forward to her continued involvement year after year.

Joseph Sanfilippo

Has been a part of the committee for 15 years. He is a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director from Savannah. After moving to White County he went back to work at White County High School as an administrator retiring again after 16 years. Currently he the Executive Director of the Georgia Athletic Directors Association.

Came onto the golf committee in 2024
I work for UGA Extension as the White County Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent. Me and my wife moved here to White County in 2013. We’re raising two young boys in this wonderful community, and White County has become our home. Serving with United Way is a joy. I’m humbly grateful to serve this community. I work with a great board of directors, and this special golf event wouldn’t be possible without a great dedicated team of fellow servants.

We’re still smiling about last week’s Darrel Chaney Invitational—and the companion outing was no exception! From laughter and new friendships to exploring the beauty of North Georgia, it was a day to remember for everyone who joined us alongside the tournament.

From Lexington, Kentucky, I have been part of The Darrel Chaney Invitational since 2019, with 2020 being the first time I attended. I work year around to buy, sell, and accumulate auction items for our event. For the past 6 years I have organized and facilitated our auction room and work with Darrel on the “live” auction items during the event.
