Titan Finale Recap
Last tournament of our four in row to end the season. Last tournament as a 10U team. Also, our last tournament with a few special players (more on that later). It was another June scorcher yet the girls were ready to battle to the end along with 22 other 10U teams.
We once again had to reach into the community to add some players to get us through this one. We were down arguably some of our bests in Lia, Nina and Yana. We were able to get Scarlett from Suwanee Sirens and Addysen Smith from Express 2013. We also brought along Addysen’s Dad, James Smith, to help Coach the girls and Staff. They were great adds and helped tremendously.
G1 in Pool Play was against Alpharetta Attack Gold. We gave the ball to Emma B and Riley and they pitched fantastic! We won the opener 15-2.
G2 was against DTS Diamonds. Amelia pitched well over four innings and we walked away with a 10-4 win. We had THREE inside the park homeruns from Katie, G and Scarlett (G and Scarlett going back to back). Bats woke up in this game against some good pitching.
G3 was against EC Bullets Pittman/Weaver. This game wasn’t as fun as the others. EC was the team to beat in this tournament, and they put the hammer down on us defeating Storm 9-0 behind some strong pitching and offense. Katie pitched well, but we couldn’t wake the bats back up to help her out on the offensive side of the game.
We finished Pool Play 2-1. We played well enough to place us into the Gold Bracket as the three seed. There was a pool of 20+ teams, so landing in the Gold Bracket was a goal and we checked that box. We came in firmly believing we were one of the best teams there and were happy we landed in a spot to prove it.
Sunday was Bracket Play. This tournament was a two day, double elimination format so we knew we had a long day ahead of us. Little did we know…..
G1 in Bracket Play was against a fun nemesis of ours and well coached team in Express Cantrell (think back to the tournament that rained out in the C’ship game) . G started this game and pitched two strong innings and kept us in the fight. We battled and eventually handed the ball over to Addysen to close it out. We ended up in an International Tie Breaker (ITB) and finally came out a 7-6 winner after five innings. This was a big win for our team and placed us in the winners bracket as the day moved on.
Despite winning, G2 was immediately after against EC Bullets Pittman/Weaver. Unfortunately, Amelia and G’s best efforts pitching couldn’t keep their bats at bay - we couldn’t get past them. We dropped this game 11-0. No excuses - EC Bullets P/W is a good team and went on to win the tournament in a dominating fashion. Kudos to them. Reps like that against good teams are only going to make ours better.
G3 was immediately after (see a trend) and we now found ourselves in the losers bracket and we now needed to fight. This game was against Ambush Chronic. We handed the ball over to Katie in this game. Katie pitched four strong innings and the offense picked her up leading us to a 6-5 victory in yet another ITB.
G4 now and again immediately after this previous game. This one was against a much improved BE Craig team. No break yet and we were all getting tired and exhausted (5+ hours now playing in a row). We tuned the ball over to Amelia in this one. BE Craig pulled this one out and handed us our 2nd loss and elimination from the tournament. Kudos to this team and their fight. They ended up finishing as the Runner Up to EC Bullets P/W.
Our girls had a tough schedule on the day, but fought til the end and didn’t complain or give excuses. We played from 10:30 to 6:00 in the heat all back to back. It was tough on the girls, but they battled to the end and fought until the last out. We lost some focus on the base paths, but we were really proud of the fight they displayed all day and weekend. That fight was beautiful to see and something we tried to install in the girls at the beginning of the season. They grew up a lot this season.
Mentions…first thing I have to say is how fun the SIX pickoffs we had at 3B/home. It was a lot of fun to see. Kudos to G, Katie and Addysen for batting over .400 on the weekend. Kudos to G and Katie for 4+ RBI’s. The pitching staff battled all weekend and the defense played well. It was another team tournament performance and we were proud of all of them and their fight. Thanks again to Coach Ben and Coach James Smith for helping me out with this one.
As mentioned, this was our last game as a 10U team and also the last this specific group would play together. Like life - it’s always changing. We will lose two players as they move on to others teams. We will miss Riley and Katie tremendously, but appreciate all they did to make season one successful and wish them the best.
We are now DONE for the season. 82 games/scrimmages on the year! We will recap the season and some changes to the team in the coming days/week.
Thanks for following along! Anyone read all this????
