Hey everyone! Just a reminder that we will have our first weekly chess club tournament today (March 5, 2026) and plan to have them each week if possible. Clermont Chess Club meets each Thursday from 6 pm to 10 pm inside the Kehlor building at the following location:

466 W Minneola Ave
Clermont, FL 34711

We'll let people settle in and probably start the tournament somewhere between 6:30 and 7 pm, but please try to arrive as early as possible. The time control will be 10+2. The tournament elo calculations from the tournament results will be at the club level only and will have no association to your USCF or FIDE rating.

Hey everyone! I was able to get all the preparation needed for our weekly chess tournaments. If all goes well, we may end up having our first club tournament on Thursday, March 5th! We will still plan on having the one on March 12th and most weeks to follow!

We are planning on having our first Clermont Chess Club Rapid tournament (10+2) on 3/12/2026! It will be completely free to play and all ages and skill levels are welcome!

This is a Chessable Blog about a study of the differences between collaborative problem-solving versus individual problem-solving.

The result seems to indicate that there is a positive benefit to collaboration. Since we do this every week, I take it as a sign that we are on the right track and doing a good thing!

The proper way to interpret a Stockfish numerical evaluation of a chess position has changed, but many people are unaware.

If you hear a person referring to "centipawn" evaluations, it's a sure sign they are unaware of the changes.

The new methodology is explained in the link below. Worth reading if you use a computer to evaluate positions in the year 2024... or planning to in 2025!
