I spent the first half hour of Advanced Kids Class last week talking to these four amazing kids. I posed one question expecting to get four different answers, but knew it would be one general theme. “What do you struggle with the most when it comes to jiu-jitsu?” Each one said getting in their own heads and nerves before competition. I shared my struggles with that at first. It was technique. It wasn’t cardio etc. This proved to me that 80% of an athletes performance is mental and probably 20% physical. Strategy, technique, and athleticism falls under the physical. You can be the best athlete with the best technique in the gym but will get beat by a lesser athlete with a strong mind who handles the stress. They learned more from this half hour of conversation than they would have learning and drilling techniques. I was reminded as a coach it’s my job to normalize the stress of competition in the gym. At the end of the day it’s just jiu-jitsu. There no magic that makes your opponent stronger or better on comp day. Silence the monster in your head by showing up everyday, working hard and being the most prepared you can be. Confidence comes from that preparation. Love these kids and proud of their hard work and honesty.

We are officially fazing out the old Gis, rash guards, and shorts for competition. If your GI has the logo matching the circled one and you want to compete, you will need the new gear with our new logo and name. I will discount $50 off the normal cost of $150 for this order ONLY. We also have a new competition sublimation patch design with name of your choice and U.S.A. that is $40 off. Rash guards and shorts will be $20 off to help off set back to school costs. Contact me ASAP if you want to order. I am putting this order in Wednesday AM at the latest to get them back before Jiu Jitsu World League. If you have a Gi with the old logo, it’s fine for training, as well as any other brand as long as it’s black or white. Thanks!
