There’s a shift happening right now on social media, and in my opinion? It’s about time.
For years, the narrative in the dance world has been dominated by trophies, hyper-flexibility, and non-stop pressure to perform over-the-top tricks. Somewhere in all this, we started trading artistry for acrobatics. We watched girls lose their spark, their joy for movement, and their love for storytelling because the standard became an exhausting, impossible race of competition.
Harder still, has been watching the ripple effect of that culture inside their social circles. If you don't compete, you might have felt the sting of being made to feel "less than"—as if your worth as a dancer is tied strictly to a Saturday score or a piece of plastic.
Hear me loud and clear: That narrative is completely false.
To my dancers who don't compete: You are vital!
You are the ones keeping the heart of dance alive. You show up for the love of the movement, the depth of the storytelling, and the sheer joy of expressing something real without needing a panel of judges to validate it. You haven't bought into the lie that dance is a sport you win; you remember that it is an art form you live.
You are bringing back storytelling. You are bringing back soul. But most importantly, we need to remind every young dancer walking through our doors that your worth has never depended on a competition routine.
Keep dancing for you. Your spark is irreplaceable. ✨
