Texas Outrigger Canoe Club TOCC, founded in 1987 at Surfside Beach, Texas, was the first outrigger club on the western Gulf Coast. The TOCC Ohana

We paddle year-round two or three times a week in Clear Lake. When the weather is conducive, we head down to Galveston beach to canoe surf and get the big open water experience. We participate in sprint (spring) and long distance (fall) races in Austin, Dallas, and Houston. We have raced in Hawaii, California, Oregon, New Hampshire, New York, and Florida. Our usual paddling venue is on Clear Lake

out through the Kemah Channel and into Galveston Bay. There is nothing like going out and coming back from a workout, and having fun with your fellow paddlers, yet getting a great over all workout mentally and physically.

Texas weather, known for its unpredictability, featured sunny skies, thunderstorms, wind, and heat. A strong, full crew began a journey through the Kemah channel but was forced to seek shelter beneath the bridge due to a thunderstorm. After consulting reliable Doppler radar, we decided it was safer to stay on the lake rather than risk navigating through random storm lines on the bay. The safety of crew and canoe is paramount. We ended the morning with a 9-mile journey and numerous smiles. Today marked a bittersweet farewell to David Picken as he departs for Hawaii full-time.

After fully re - rigging Mele Kai late afternoon , Sandy and I paddled out to P*e P*e Harbor and entered a small secluded water sanctuary. There’s a brand new dock there now and a large public looking building onshore . I don’t see it on the google map . It’s been in the process of being built for years now .What is it? Carleton

Loving the Sunday Funday! We were so lucky to have a peach of a day out on the bay. Yes, Erica Anderson brought in the dolphins 🙂 7 miles of glide and smiles!

Sometimes life gets in the way. Sandy and I did not have high expectations for today’s workout other than it would be nice to be on the water. Instead , we had a great 10 mile round trip workout up Clear Creek to Walter Hall Park and back with a very nice wake to follow for 2 1/2 miles . It was a super positive charge. CEWK.
