Each year, St. Louis Field Hockey Association presents an award to the rookie and veteran umpires of the year The 2024 Rookie Umpire of the Year Award was presented to Cathleen Fogarty
Cathleen Fogarty has coached field hockey in St. Louis for over 12 years, and umpired for a few years. She is recently retired from teaching, and when not watching her four daughters play field hockey, enjoys being able to umpire the game she loves. Cathleen is grateful for the honor of being chosen as the Rookie Umpire of the Year for 2024. She especially appreciates all of her fellow umpires and coaches who are growing the game in St. Louis! Cathleen was unable to attend yesterday’s championship game, so Umpire and Coach Dawn Callahan accepted the award on her behalf.
The 2024 Veteran Umpire of the year award was presented to Brooke Weaver. After learning that she earned this recognition, here was Brooke’s response:
“I’m honored to have been named the veteran umpire of the year. This was my 7th year officiating. When I first started umpiring, it was a fun hobby that I never saw going any further than high school games. Fast forward 7 years later, I’ve done 3 Missouri State final games and have moved up in the college umpiring world. I now travel every weekend in the fall doing BIG 10, ACC, MAC, and NEC games. This umpiring journey has brought me all over the country for college and club games. I’ve also earned my level 2 umpire and coaching certifications. I’m grateful for all the friends I’ve made along the way. It’s been an amazing journey watching everything come full cycle. Playing in high school and winning state in 2008, playing in college, coaching high school, and now umpiring high school and college. Special shout out and thank you to my partner today, Nathan Calcari for answering my endless field hockey questions and putting up with me for over hundreds of games.”
Congratulations, speaking Cathleen and Brooke
