It’s not that you can’t cross your feet when you have someone’s back, it’s that the nuance of doing so is more complicated than just saying it’s a bad idea. It’s sort of like being able to use the saddle in ibjjf competition. You can use the saddle, but how you do it is very specific and unless you dedicate yourself to that position, you’re more likely to get disqualified. In order to cross your feet when on someone’s back, you must ensure that you’ve isolated their hips. If they cannot push their hips forward, they can’t ankle lock you. It sounds very simple, but it’s a dangerous game, play at your own risk.
