SAWYER WILL BE BACK IN THE KART FOR THURSTON FAMILY RACING/SANDERS MOTORSPORTS TONIGHT AT CAN-AM

After taking last Saturday night off, 5 year old Sawyer is ready to return for her second night of kart racing.

Sawyer is excited to give kart racing another try and get more track time at Can-Am.

Last week, Maverick Bassett filled in, we appreciate Maverick and his family for their efforts, while trying to keep 3 karts going for double features.

Sawyer will again compete in the Rookie Red Clone division, a great way for kids to get started in kart racing.

Thanks to Lee and Cheryl Sanders for giving some kids the opportunity to try kart racing and to Rick's Plumbing and Heating for all their support of our karting efforts.

Slight change in plans.

Greg will be behind the wheel of the Thurston Family Racing #2 tonight at Can-Am Speedway.

Last Friday night, suspension issues kept us out of the feature event, but we have hopefully made the necessary changes and are ready for another try to improve our performance.

Ryan Shanahan will be driving the car again this Friday night, to try and help us get the handling of the car straightened away. We made a few changes last week before the feature and that should give us a good starting point for this week.

THURSTON FAMILY RACING/SANDERS MOTORSPORTS HAS A GOOD GO-KART NIGHT AT CAN-AM

When we found out Sawyer couldn't race this past Saturday, we made a last minute change to have 6 year old Maverick Bassett make his first start in our youth kart and give him the opportunity to go go-kart racing with his siblings.

Can-Am had double features last Saturday and Maverick nearly picked up the win in the 1st feature, finishing second. He came back with a 5th place finish in feature number 2.

Thanks to Maverick and his family for taking the kart to Can-Am, we're sure they had fun.

Sawyer Henry will be back behind the wheel this Saturday for her second night of kart racing at Can-Am.

SHORT NIGHT THIS PAST FRIDAY AT CAN-AM

With Ryan Shanahan filling in this week, he was getting used to the car and after hot laps and the heat race, he had some ideas to try, so we went to work making the changes.

Ryan headed out for the feature and immediately knew we had a problem. One small adjustment to the rear panhard bar, made the rear rotor hit the panhard bar mount. We were not able to get it fixed in time and missed the feature event.

Ryan will be helping us out again this week, we will try the few changes and hope to get better this week at Can Am.

MAVERICK BASSETT TO DRIVE THURSTON FAMILY RACING/SANDERS MOTORSPORTS YOUTH KART TONIGHT AT CAN-AM

With Sawyer not available to race tonight, 6 year old Maverick Bassett with give kart racing a try at Can-Am. He will join his siblings, 9 year old August, who competes in Jr. Purple Clone and 8 year old Jasper who races in Jr. Green Clone. It will be a busy night for the Bassett family keeping 3 karts going.

Can-Am has a double show tonight so the kids will get lots of laps.

Not the night we had hoped for.

After a lengthy rain delay, Ryan started 8th and ended up 7th in the heat race.

Unfortunately a mechanical failure under yellow before the feature started caused a DNS.

RYAN SHANAHAN TO FILL IN THIS WEEKEND FOR THURSTON FAMILY RACING

After spending most of the winter assembling a newer chassis and updating most of the parts, we came into the season with high expectations, but so far that hasn't happened.

Greg has given us 100%, we have taken the car and had the entire chassis gone through and we are still missing something. Greg has limited experience with the newer style chassis, so it is difficult for him to give feedback and unfortunately we don't have anyone directly involved with us that might be able to help sort things out.

We have talked with Greg and agreed to have Ryan Shanahan drive the car this week so we can gain some of feedback we are looking for. Ryan has years of experience in the newer style chassis and is a multi-time feature winner at Can-Am, we hope to learn from Ryan's experience and get the car up front. We appreciate Ryan taking the time to help us out and plans are for Greg to be back in the car next week.

With last weekend off, we took the time to go through the engine and also freshen our shock package, we aren't giving up, just changing direction for this weekend.
