This weekend at the DIAA Wrestling State Championship was one of those moments that reminds you what this sport is really about.
Four of our seniors Josh Jalloh, Mason Milligan, Kaleb Williams, and Jarrett Waltz all four-year wrestlers, earned their place on that stage together. Over the past four years, these boys have become more than teammates… they’ve become family.
If you’ve ever been part of the wrestling world, you know exactly what that means. Moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins everyone crammed into a gym for hours on end. Running from mat to mat cheering for kids you may have just met, but somehow feeling connected after watching them battle through the highs and lows of the sport.
You watch a kid fight through the heartbreak of a tough loss, then turn around and dig deep for the next match and suddenly you’re just as invested in his journey as if he were your own.
That’s the thing about wrestling.
It starts as a team… but somewhere along the way, it becomes a family.
Since freshman year, these four have grown together through tough practices, long tournaments, big wins, and heartbreaking losses. They’ve pushed each other, supported each other, and built something special along the way.
This weekend was a proud moment for all of them. Josh Jalloh and Mason Milligan showed incredible resilience, battling back through the bracket after tough losses to fight their way to the podium and finish 3rd in the state.
Jarrett Waltz battled hard as well, advancing to the second day of the state tournament, showing the toughness and determination that has defined his four-year journey on the mat.
Kaleb Williams also competed this season at the Indoor Track & Field State Championship, meaning he qualified for and competed in two individual state championships in the same season an impressive testament to his dedication and athleticism.
It truly took a village to get these boys here, and we couldn’t be more proud of the wrestlers and young men they have become.
Once a wrestling family, always a wrestling family.
