First, the BAD news for this week's Chiefs information posting board.

The DREAM of getting a team together for the many Sussex County guys who were good to excellent high school players at their schools just a few years ago has DIED again.

Even though there are about 1,200- 1,400 ex high school players over the last 10-12 years who are still in the county, we were just not able to reach hardly any of them enough to get them to even come out to practice. It is the nature of the game of football that you need at least 25 guys to be able to succeed in any league, we never had anywhere near 25 so we will fold up for the Fall season.

I hope at some time that this year's group of 107 players (many who made contact with me get another chance to play the GREATEST of American games. There is nothing like "GAME DAY !".

I would definitely like to thank the 750 people who have followed us and the other 900 people who 'liked' us on Facebook since we started to prepare for the season back in March of this year. Many of you have ventured forth some very productive ideas for us. And, I know now that we would have been followed as we played our games by many of you folks.

Thank you to Dr. Mark Menendez who volunteered to be our team doctor. If you need an orthopedic doctor please be sure to call Dr. Mark. He is with The Southern Division of First State Orthopedics.

Perhaps we will try again for the Spring League, but with my health failing I am not sure that I will be able to put in the MANY hours of of-the-field preparation hours that I often struggled to put in this year.

To end our season, I would like to ask the 100+ guys who either made contact with the team (65) or that I recruited (47-48) that they should have had at least enough respect to respond to someone who asks you a question. I am sure that your parents taught you this lesson a long time ago, but I thought that I would remind you that you SHOULD be able to take 5 seconds to respond to the question.

For this reason, I have so much more RESPECT for the FIVE young men who took the 5 seconds to reply telling me that they either did not want to play for various reasons than I can ever have for the 100+ guys who could never bother to spend those precious few seconds to tell me that they didn't want to play.

Again, thank you so much for following an liking our journey. I had a BLAST getting to know some of your folks here on the internet, and I wish every one a great Fall season.

I will look for your responses as I look to improve for the next time. Thank you to Pizzaguru1 for being the first person to send a constructive thought about how we can improve..

The CHIEFS will practice on Saturday morning at 8:30 AM at he Milford Middle School field (behind the school and right on Seabury Ave).

If you really want to play semi pro football this season (and I have spoken to over 100 guys) this is the LAST DAY last day for you to come out. Bring your $60 registration fee so that I can order your game shirts from the shirt supplier on Sunday so that he can guarantee to have the back here before the first game.

PLEASE bring the registration fee in CASH or a check for the $60 written out to Sussex County Chiefs. NO CashApps or Paypal type payments will be accepted on Saturday.

I know that there are many guys who want to play, but if you can't show up this weekend we will not have a team for you to play on this FALL.

We are getting started quite late, but you will get the old 'football fever' back if you let yourself show up for some practices before the season begins.

SEE YOU on SATURDAY !

Ah, I got a whole bunch of thoughts from many folks on the internet to my post here yesterday afternoon when i asked people to help me to understand why we have had over 60 young men make contact with us relating to playing football this year as member of the Sussex County Chiefs.

Some were very comical and funny and some were very serious. Certainly both types of thoughts were expected and also appreciated.

I will say at this point we now have almost 750 different people who hare "Following" us on Facebook as well as another 550 who "like" us ,so I know that there is at least a good bit of interest in the team that was designed to give the many young men who graduated from all of the schools in our County and also from just outside of our borders a chance to play football again with their classmates and even some family member.

And, because of the any people who want us to be successful this season we are going to try to get a team to show up for our next practice on WEDNESDAY evening at 5:45 @ Milford Middle School which is right on Seabury Ave.

We are certainly running out of time however because we have to order our uniforms by this next Saturday afternoon in order to have our supplier to guarantee their delivery before out first game. So, we now have to ask anyone who is going to play this season to get their $70 registration fee in THIS week. There can be no 'payment plans' available at this late date.

What can you do as a "Follower" or person who 'likes' us on Facebook do for the Chiefs??? You can help to motivate some of the many guys that you know who have played high school football in the last 10-15 years to venture out of their houses to be at practice on Wednesday evening at 5:45 at Milford Middle School.

Thank you for your assistance and concern for our team and its players. We hope not to let you down. And if we can get some of these young men out to play some football we might just become a very good team.

To the over 1200 guys in Sussex county who have played H. S ball

From our Head Football Coach on Tuesday morning

"Fellas, it is time to line up and play ball! I have been to 4 workouts since I became the Head Coach of the Chiefs and I don't know you because you have been trying to be ghost players. Time to give up ghosting our game and show up to begin a great season."
This week, July 11th , we begin our preseason just as Mr. Darling announced way back in early June. We only have 8 weeks (16 practices) left to get a brand new team up to a level where we can compete in a league that has been playing now for 15 years.
We are at practice on Saturday at 9 AM and if you have not yet filled out your registration papers you need to get to the field by 8:30. Field will be announced by Friday evening on our team's page.
Please have your helmet, shoulder pads (w/a shirt to cover your pads) and your cleats on Saturday. If you don't have a helmet or pads yet, COME to practice anyway to see if some guys have pads/helmets to sell..
Thanks and I'll see you on Saturday.

The Chiefs now have 742 Facebook "followers". Thank you you from our team's General Manager, our Head Coach Markos Davis and his staff for your support.
If you are following us on Facebook (and we have not even had a full practice yet) I am sure that we will have even more people interested i coming to watch us play this season as we represent our County in one of the Fall leagues.

In speaking with Coach Davis, it was interesting to hear of his decision to come out for the team . He said when "he read about Coach Darling starting the Chiefs here in Sussex County, my assistant varsity coach Branden Hall and I decided to come to the first practice. We were both very excited to see that someone was going to bring semi pro football to our area". It will be a great thing for so any of the guys like me and Brandon to have this opportunity to play ball again at a higher level than high school and we won't have to travel very far for practices and home games."

How he became the Head Coach. "after our second workout, I was kind of tired and my legs were hurting a little bit"., and Brandon already could not play because of an arm injury so we asked Mr
Darling about the possibility of coaching the team this season. We then spoke several times in the next few days and, to make a long story short we decided to take the head and the assistant head coaching spots on the team."

"Since that time we have both been out recruiting guys that we know in the county to come out and join us. We have a few older guys that we went to school with BUT we do not have enough younger guys so we are asking all of our "followers' to help get everyone you know who can be football player for our team to come to practice this Wednesday evening (5:30 pm) at Georgetown Middle School so that we can get to meet the guys who want to play ball with us before we start the preseason camp on July 11th."

Can you be good enough to win a championship this year, Coach Davis? "We'll see, but if we can get the guys we know who can play the game onto the field, I think that we will have a great chance"

All players will need to have helmets and shoulder pads read for practice on July 11th.
