Here is the email we sent Tuesday in case you did not get it
Information overload!
Packet pickup options:
Friday, 1-2pm at The Burrow in Claude, Texas (they are open so have a meal or grab a drink!)
Friday, 4:30-5:30 pm at Get Fit in Amarillo, Texas (hang out and do some shopping!)
Saturday, beginning at 6am at the starting line
You are more than welcome to grab your buddies packets also! Also, if you’re a relay team one member can grab everyone’s!
The run will start at 7am on Saturday!
Weather:
It is gonna get HOT Saturday. Start hydrating now. We will have water and electrolytes at both water stops and the finish. We will also put wet towels at water stop 2 and with the popsicles at the bottom of the last climb out (about mile 8.5). We encourage you to carry your own water in case you want it between spots.
Relays:
We have over 20 teams registered as of today. We don’t care where you choose to switch runners. However, the water stops are located at 5k and 10k if you want each leg to be equal. The last leg of the relay is who needs to wear your team’s bib. When navigating to stops, please do NOT follow your runner in a vehicle. With over 20 teams there will be a lot of traffic on the road, so please go to your exchange point and pull ALL THE WAY off the road.
Parking:
Please pull all the way off the road at the start as it’s still an active roadway. You can park on both sides in the ditch in front and past the starting line. We will have more room for vehicles if you will either pull in head first or back in. Don’t park parallel with the road. When you park at the finish, park along the road up to the rest stop and, again, pull or back in to leave room for everyone. Please DO NOT drive up to the very top, that is the finish line area and there is not a lot of room.
Pics below!
Restrooms:
We will have 2 porta-potties at the start on a trailer. Once the race starts, we will move those to the finish line. If you gotta go on the course, there are plenty of bushes to run to….watch for critters!!!
Bugs:
We ran it this past Saturday and did not start with bug spray but I would suggest putting it on. However, at about mile 6, the deer flies started buzzing around hot and heavy! We will have bug spray at the water stops in case you forget!
Safety:
As stated above, highway 207 will be open to all traffic during the run. TxDot is placing electronic signs on both the north and south rims to alert drivers of runners ahead. Remain running on the left hand side of the road. This allows you to see the traffic coming at you. Most of the time there is a small shoulder or oncoming traffic has 2 lanes. However, at mile 4.5(ish) there is a blind turn for both drivers and runners. The guardrail is right on the shoulder. Please be alert on this left hand curve. We will place cones to help alert drivers too so they will move into the climbing lane.
Traffic:
To be blunt, data center traffic sucks south from Claude to Lima Road on Highway 207. If you are coming from Claude/Panhandle areas, I would allow about 15 extra minutes to get past the data center. If you are coming from Amarillo/Canyon, I would suggest taking Pullman Road (FM 1258) until it ties back in with Highway 207 to avoid the morning congestion of the data center. I put a post on our page about what traffic looks like on Saturday mornings about 5:30am.
Shirts:
Those of you that registered after the shirt deadline - Good news!! We will be placing a 2nd order next week to make sure all runners get a shirt. I will have a clipboard at packet pickup and the finish line to get your information (name, phone, size) for that order.
Other:
If you are walking and starting early, Lone Star would like for you to NOT wear your bib because it will pick up on the timing system.
