By Bruce E. Williams
After being upset by the Detroit Lady Eagles in road action on this past Tuesday night, Coach Broderick Gaffney's Clarksville Lady Tigers stormed back at home on Friday night, handling the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas 55-33. With the victory the second-place Lady Tigers now own a 7-2 district record. James Bowie, (8-0) is the front-running team in District 16-2-A.
In the first half of action, Clarksville missed an alarming number of shots under the goal, but the squad did manage to knock down six three-point field goals in the game.
The Lady Tigers never trailed in the ballgame, racing off to an early 7-0 advantage when Keileigh Edwards scored on a driving layup with 5:54 left in the opening period.
The stubborn Lady Brahmas charged back, closing the gap to 7-6 before Clarksville took a 14-9 advantage into the second period.
Pewitt continued to fight back, and with 1:15 remaining in the first half, the Lady Brahmas closed to within 24-23 before Jaylen Fix dropped in a Clarksville free throw, and Rianna Casey scored on a putback. A drive for a bucket from Edwards ended scoring in the half as Clarksville moved to the dressing room leading 29-23.
With just 25 seconds left in the third frame, Alize Miller knocked down a free throw sending Gaffney's team into the final period leading 39-28.
The Lady Tigers stepped up defensively in the second half, limiting their opponent to just 10 total points through the final two periods. With 1:31 remaining in the contest Kennadi Taylor scored inside to give the Lady Tigers their greatest advantage of the game at 55-32.
Ewards led all scorers in the game with 23 points. She also buried a pair of three-point field goals. Fix contributed 12 points including one made three-pointer. Lizabeth Jimenez also scored in double figures, with 10 points including a pair of three-pointers. Casey added the other Clarksville three-pointer.

Blue Tigers Take Down Pewitt
By Bruce E. Williams
The Clarksville Blue Tigers continued their winning ways on Friday night defeating the Paul Pewitt Brahmas 53-37 to improve to 6-2 in District 16-2-A play.
Clarksville junior guard Christian Smith bombed in a three-pointer to open scoring in the game, and from that point, the Blue Tigers kept the lead. The Tigers held a 14-7 advantage at the end of a low-scoring first period. Hill's troops would gain a 10-point advantage on three occasions in the second frame with the final, a 28-18 lead that arrived when Braden Rosser scored down low with 30 seconds left in the half. Clarksville held a 28-19 lead at the intermission.
A Kaiden Taylor bucket off the break followed by Rosser's baseline jumper extended the advantage to 32-19 as the second half started. Taylor also scored the final points of the third when his buzzer-beating basket off the break sent Clarksville to the final period in control 41-29.
Back-to-back buckets from Braden Rosser and La'Broderick Rosser would lift the Blue Tigers to a 45-29 lead with 6:51 remaining in the game. Clarksville would eventually build a 51-33 advantage with 2:35 left in the game.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Braden Rosser who canned 27 points, Taylor and Smith produced nine points each, as Clarksville reached double-digit scoring in all four periods.
The Tigers will be on the road Tuesday night as Hill takes his team to Titus County to face off against front-running Harts Bluff.

Detroit Eagles Season Ends
By Bruce E. Williams
When play got underway this week in District 9-2-A Division II football, Celeste, Cumby, Detroit, and James Bowie were each out to claim one of the two remaining playoff spots in the district.
Playing the game without Head Coach, Paul Johnston on the sideline, Detroit moved to the field at James Bowie High School on this past Friday night with Assistant Coach, Ryan Kennedy serving as the Head Coach for the Eagles in the ballgame. Although Kennedy and the staff served the team well in the contest, a furious rally from Bowie during the final quarter and a half of the game allowed the home standing Pirates to record a 42-22 win, and thus join Maud, Clarksville and Cumby as the teams representing the district in post season play.
"The game tonight didn't go as we intended it to go. Our boys came out and battled hard, but at the end of the day, we fell short," explained Kennedy. Our coaching staff is extremely proud of the improvements that our guys have made as a team over the season."
Detroit trailed 20-16 at the half, but under the leadership of Kennedy, the team regained the lead on the opening drive of period three with sophomore quarterback Jatavion Jones scoring on a three yard run with 6:51 left in the quarter. Jones tally gave the Eagles a 22-20 advantage, and high hopes of advancing to post season play.
The Pirates responded in a big way with a 24 yard touchdown run with 3:49 left in period three to take the lead for good, moving ahead 26-22.
Two more touchdowns arrived in the fourth quarter for the Pirates. A four yard run with 10:27 left in the quarter followed by a two-point conversion run, lifted the Bowie advantage to 34-22. The final touchdown and conversion run came with 2:40 left in the game producing the final margin of victory.
The teams engaged in an all-out war during the first half. The Pirates started fast in the game, jumping out to a 14-0 lead with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter. Detroit finally got on the scoreboard when Jones scored on a five yard touchdown run, and was true with his two point conversion run with 9:05 remaining in the first half, as the Eagles pulled to within 14-8.
A two yard run at the 4:53 mark of the second period, and another Jones two-point conversion run, gave the Eagles a 16-14 advantage.
With the clock winding down in the second period, Bowie delivered a 16 yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left before halftime, giving the home team their halftime advantage.
Detroit forced a pair of turnovers by way of fumble recoveries in the game. Bowie actually had an opportunity to possibly have a three touchdown lead in the first period, but Preston Lejuene's fumble recovery after the Pirates had reached the Eagles 33 yard line spoiled that attempt.
Freshman Jayden Chesshire's fumble recovery on the Bowie 44 yard line with 8:59 remaining in the first half, would lead to the touchdown that gave the Eagles their first lead in the game.
Jones, a sophomore, carried the ball often in the game and surpassed the 100 yard rushing mark.
Dilin Exum, a senior, ran the ball hard, while picking valuable yards in his final game as a member of the football team. Lineman Kasen Henderson added a strong performance in his finale also, with Albert Ewing, Ethan Gatlin, and Austin Young being the remaining seniors listed on the team roster.
Coach Johnston, who was in his first season as head coach, will certainly have something to build upon as he will have a young team once again to take the field next year. The future appears bright in Eagle country.
"We have had some success that we can build on going forward into next year. We are excited to get an off season with them, and continue to build on what we started," Kennedy said.
