It’s gunna be Maaaaaaay! It’s Brittany Bishhhhhhhh!!!
My journey with CrossFit started many years ago with my dearly departed friend Bill Martin at Elite. Bill was also a rower for my high school club and would help out with coaching our club. Bill was tragically killed in a car accident 13 years ago and I still keep his obituary card on the visor in my car. Bill was the FINEST and one of the funniest men I have ever met. I still want to let people know that because I know that his ego continues to appreciate it. I still miss him and I still think about him almost every day, especially when a workout is difficult. Bill would plan ridiculous workouts, make me do them, laugh, and then say “I can’t believe you did that. I wouldn’t have done that.” He was great at making people see their potential, even when they didn’t see it themselves.
I rowed throughout high school and then for the University of Louisville for 2 years. During my second year at Louisville, I was met with some unexpected challenges and decided to move back to Cincinnati to pursue a career in nursing. I am proud to say that I made the right decision. I have been a nurse for over 16 years and have worked in home healthcare, long term care facilities, Beckett Springs, DaVita Dialysis, and Good Samaritan hospital. During my journey, I have met so many incredible people that helped change my life for the better. After many long years, I am now a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Even though the hours are tough and the work is challenging, I can confidently say I love what I do. My job is definitely a huge part of my identity, and I talk about it too much. I am a self-proclaimed animal hoarder and love being a “fur and scale mom”. I have 3 English Mastiffs (Aldo, Kuma-Sue, and Rayla), 1 French Bulldog (Trippy), 3 ferrets (Griffin, Felix, and Maddie), 2 pigs (Meryl and Elliott), 2 Leopard Tortoises (Alistair and Guillermo), 1 Ball Python (Skarsgard), and 1 cat (Heka AKA Mamma). I always keep a pet named some version of Bill or William to honor my friend BIll Martin. Guillermo is Italian for William.
