Sunflower Revolution Sunday September 11, 2022
As many of you know Kathy and I started the Sunflower Revolution back in 2004. Kathy’s dad, Don Krumme was recently diagnosed, and we wanted to sponsor an event to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease research and care in his honor.
With a little help from our friends, Dr. John Tew and Davis Phinney, we were able to donate $100,000 to UC Neuroscience and provide seed money to start up the Davis Phinney Foundation. Fast forward 18 years later, and the UC Gardner Center for Parkinson’s Disease is housed in the new, state of the art, patient-centric Gardner Center Neuroscience Institute building in Clifton, and the Davis Phinney Foundation leads the way in providing paths to help people with Parkinson’s Disease live well today.
As Davis Phinney always says, “Every Victory Counts”, and we believe that small victories lead to greater ones.
This year will be the last that Fifty West Cycling / Oakley Cycles is sponsoring a team for the Sunflower Revolution. Won’t you please help us go out with a blast by registering to participate in this year’s Sunflower Rev It Up? https://secure.qgiv.com/event/2sunfreiufop/team/899100/
The 2022 Sunflower Rev It Up includes: a 60k bike ride (optional 30k turnaround), an optional Devou Hill Climb Challenge with great prizes for KOM, QOM and Strava age group winners, Fifty West Beer (for purchase) and free Skyline, Papa John’s Pizza, Balance Cafe’s famous energy balls and more! Live music by String Theory, a 70’s cover band! (It’s also perfect tailgate opportunity before the Bengals/Pittsburgh game!)
The Sunflower Rev It Up raises money to support The Gardner Center for Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, and the event included a symposium for patients and caregivers.
