This image has been going around social media, and there’s a lot of truth to it.

Here’s something we see all the time at Terry Bryan Fitness & Wellness: not everyone who walks through our doors is trying to lose weight.

Some are actually trying to GAIN; gain muscle.

And that can be one of the smartest health goals you set.

Muscle isn’t just about looking strong. Muscle is metabolically active tissue.

Building and maintaining it helps your body use glucose more effectively, supports insulin sensitivity, protects your bones and joints, improves strength and function, and helps preserve your independence as you age.

And here’s the mindset shift:

The number on the scale doesn’t tell you what you’re made of.

You could lose 5 pounds while losing valuable muscle or stay the exact same weight while losing fat and gaining muscle.

Those are two VERY different outcomes.

Cardio absolutely has a place. We want a strong heart too. ❤️

But especially as we get older, strength training becomes an investment in the body we want 10, 20 and 30 years from now.

So maybe the goal isn’t always to weigh less.

Maybe the goal is to carry MORE muscle.
Be stronger.
Move better.
And build a body that keeps up with your life.

💪 This week, instead of asking “How much weight did I lose?” ask yourself:

“What am I doing to build and protect my muscle?”

Your bones are living tissue. When you strength train, your muscles pull on your bones and your bones experience mechanical loading. That stimulus tells the body: this bone needs to be stronger.

Here’s why starting early matters:

Most people build the majority of their peak bone mass by their late 20s to around age 30. Think of that as building your “bone bank.”

What you build in your 20s and 30s gives you a stronger foundation heading into your 40s, 50s and beyond.

And for women, this becomes especially important around menopause, when declining estrogen can accelerate bone loss.

But here’s the part I want women over 40 to hear:

It is NOT too late.

Resistance training and weight-bearing exercise continue to provide the mechanical stimulus bones need throughout adulthood. You may not be able to go back and change what you did at 25—but you can absolutely start protecting what you have today.

So lift the weights.
Progressively challenge yourself.
Eat enough protein.
Get the nutrients your bones need.

Train today for the 70-year-old version of you.

Your workouts aren’t just changing how your body looks.

They’re helping build a body that can keep up with your life.

SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE 🔥

DO ONE HARD THING. EVERY DAY.

What could change in your life if, for the next 30 days, you intentionally chose to do something that requires a little more from you?

That’s the challenge.

Every day in September, choose ONE HARD THING. It can be something from our list, or you can choose your own. You can even choose the same hard thing every day and see what happens when you stay committed to it for an entire month.

Maybe yours is getting your workout in when you’d rather skip it. Walking every day. Giving up sugar. Cutting out junk food and seed oils. Adding weight to the bar. Getting up earlier. Finally doing the thing you keep putting off.

“Hard” will look different for everyone. That’s the point.

Thirty days may not sound like much, but 30 days of keeping one promise to yourself can create a massive shift.

You build confidence.
You build discipline.
You prove that you can follow through.

And somewhere along the way, the thing that felt hard on September 1st may not feel so hard on September 30th.

We’re not doing points. We’re not chasing perfection.

We’re doing something much simpler:

ONE DAY. ONE HARD THING. 30 DAYS.

👇 Comment I’M IN and tell us what your hard thing is going to be.

Then tomorrow…do it. 💪
