Morning thoughts about Mahjong! 🀄️🌅

You may not remember learning to read, but as a Kindergarten teacher I get practice teaching children this skill every day! 📚

Learning Mahjong can feel similar to learning to read! Not everyone learns at the same time - and that’s okay. 💗

Giving yourself time, grace, and the repeated practice that you need is sometimes hard to do. We play a comparison game in every aspect of life!

Being the first to figure it out doesn’t mean you’ll be the best at it. Sometimes the person who needs a little more time in the beginning becomes the one who shines later. ✨

Learning isn’t a race. Give yourself time, keep showing up, and enjoy the process.

MAHJ VOCABULARY: What’s a BAM?

If you’re new to Mahjong, you might be wondering… what exactly is a Bam? 🤔

Bams are one of the three suits in American Mahjong — along with the Dots and Craks.

🎋 The Bam suit is traditionally represented by bamboo, and the tiles are numbered 1–9. The green dragon also goes with this suit.

🐦 Fun fact: The 1 Bam usually looks a little different from the rest! Instead of bamboo sticks, it often features a bird — and the design can vary from set to set. It is commonly called the “bird bam.”
