With the shortened week (for me) in the gym due to holiday travel, HELM clients showed up! 19 clients between 3pm yesterday and 10:30am this morning 💪🏼

Seems like as good of a time as any to share some of their hard work ahead of the holidays. As always, I didn’t catch everyone on video, but here are a few clips plus some of the wins -

2 weeks in with a new client
heaviest SSB since surgery
building fluidity & comfort in plyos
remote client new block going smoothly
12 rep AMRAP at “90%”
trap bar casual PR
conv. DL 5 rep PR
pain free pressing
consistent, increased daily steps
… you get the point.

HELM client highlights! ✨

We’ve had a lot of wins with clients lately (and, as per usual, I forget to film so much) - here are a few highlights of what some of them have been up to in their training!

- Amy just completed her first mixed HYROX in Chicago! 12-weeks of training for it and she said she’d do another one 💪🏼
- Cat with week 1 of sumo deadlifting!
- Ryan is a pretty springy guy! Seated broad jumps between squats.
- Izzy starting a new program and on week 1 getting and RDL baseline 🦵🏼
- Amy post-HyROX with trap bar power shrugs
- Ellen working sumos from the floor after several weeks from blocks
- Sarah hitting an easy SSBx4 as the first loaded squat variation she’s had since surgery!

Many, many more wins in and outside of the gym, but these are what I remembered to film or remembered to save from form checks with remote clients!

I first heard this saying from on his stories and it’s been something I use with clients ever since.

Here’s how this works

In life we have things that just need to get done, like taking out the trash. You hardly even think about it but you do it because you know it needs to. And you do it even when you don’t want to (I mean, who does, honestly?)

Your health and fitness has so many of these same type of tasks and should be the same way

My goal is to get everyone moving more, better, and frankly just trying to get to minimum recommended activity guidelines

Sometimes to do that you have to do the things when you don’t want to - like taking out the trash.

Eventually, with consistent effort over long periods of time, it becomes easier and easier to do but they still need to get done.

So the next time you “don’t want to” train, prep, or move a bit, think about the fact that you will probably still take out the trash this week.

Hope this analogy sticks with you as much as it has with me!

Trying something can be daunting.

But it’s an extremely powerful and empowering tool when you let it.

Inside and outside of the gym.

If you’re new to lifting, just being in the gym can be a lot.

If you’re new to hiking, your first steep incline can feel scary.

But every time you try to do those things, you build evidence that you can.

Again and again and again.

That’s the power of trying.
