I remember being astonished when a student first told me this. And sad.
Then I taught for a few years, and I knew what she meant. I wasn’t that happy teacher anymore.
I left the classroom summer of 2020 for several reasons, but this was the main one: teaching didn’t make me happy anymore. Actually, it made me a pretty grumpy person most of the time. Grumpy with my kids. Grumpy with my husband. Grumpy all the time and it was awful. I could see what I was doing, how I was behaving, but I felt powerless to stop it.
It was the same time that I became interested in coaching. I don’t mean the kind that comes into the classroom, watches for 5 minutes, then gives canned advice about all the things to change to miraculously improve your classroom, then leaves and you never hear from them again.
That’s not what would have helped me, so I sure as hell won’t be doing that now.
So what do I do?
I work with people individually to find a way to optimize their own individual strengths so we can find a unique solution to bring happiness back into their classroom. Their life. Everywhere. Wherever it’s missing.
I can’t really explain it more exactly than that. It’s up to you how coaching can change your life and your classroom.
This year I’ve been able to go back into the classroom as a sub and guess what?
I’ve been that happy teacher again.
I love being there.
I have love and patience to give the students and I still have love and patience to give when I get home.
It’s the best.
If you want to get back to being that happy teacher again, drop me a line.
It would bring me so much joy to help put as many happy teachers in the classroom as possible.
