TRAINER TIP TUESDAY

Stop waiting to feel motivated.

Motivation is great when it shows up. But it’s also unreliable.

Some days you’ll walk into the gym ready to go. Other days, you’ll have a hundred reasons why tomorrow sounds better.

That’s where consistency matters more than motivation.

You don’t brush your teeth because you woke up feeling inspired to do it. You do it because it’s part of taking care of yourself. Training can become the same way.

You don’t need every session to be your best. You don’t need to set a personal record. You don’t even need to feel excited about being there.

You just need to keep the appointment you made with yourself.

And here’s the funny thing: motivation often shows up after you get started.

So on the days you don’t feel like training, don’t wait for motivation.

Show up. Start moving. Practice.

Consistency will take you places motivation never could.

It’s time for our TRAINER TIP TUESDAY!

Don’t workout. Practice!

Since earning my StrongFirst SFG-1 and adopting the StrongFirst approach to training, I’ve stopped thinking of my time in the gym as a ā€œworkout.ā€ Instead, I call it practice.

Think about it: golfers practice. Musicians practice. Athletes practice their sport. So why should strength be any different?

When I practice, I’m not just trying to burn calories, get sweaty, or wear myself out. I’m trying to get better at something.

I’m practicing my kettlebell swing and front squat. I’m practicing creating tension, controlling my breathing, generating force, and moving with better technique.

That shift changes the question from, ā€œDid I work hard enough today?ā€ to ā€œDid I get better today?ā€

That doesn’t mean practice is easy or that we don’t work hard. It means the goal isn’t exhaustion. The goal is quality repetitions that build skill and strength while leaving you ready to come back and practice again.

Strength is a skill, and skills are practiced.

So the next time you come into Gymies, don’t just ā€œget your workout in.ā€

PRACTICE!

Trainer Tip Tuesday: Sometimes, showing up IS the win.

Today, I wasn’t feeling it. I’ve got a lot on my plate, and I went into practice feeling weighed down and unmotivated.

But I reminded myself of something I’ve learned through decades of practice: Just show up.

I didn’t have to figure everything out. I didn’t need to have a great practice. I just needed to take the next step.

And you know what? It was better than I expected. My heart started pumping, the bell started moving, the sweat started going—and somewhere along the way, I knew I’d made the right choice.

Some days you’ll be motivated and ready to crush it. Other days, life feels heavy and you just aren’t feeling it.

On those days, don’t decide how it’s going to go before you start. Show up. Take the next step. Give yourself the opportunity.

Today, I showed up for myself. And sometimes…showing up IS the win. šŸ’ŖšŸ½

TRAINER TIP TUESDAY
(nope, Trainer Tip WEDNESDAY - Facebook glitched yesterday & the glitch went unnoticed until now!)

Did your workout challenge you… or just beat you up?

A great workout doesn’t have to leave you crawling out of Gymies.

Being exhausted, incredibly sore, or unable to do much the rest of the day doesn’t automatically mean you had a great workout. There’s a difference between training hard and simply beating yourself up.

A good strength program has a purpose: give your body enough challenge to become stronger and more capable.

Sometimes that means training HARD. But more isn’t always better. Better is better.

You should generally leave something ā€œin the tank.ā€ Good training allows you to recover, adapt, and come back ready to train again—not spend four days recovering from one heroic workout.

Instead of asking how tired or sore you are, ask yourself:

šŸ’Ŗ Did I train with purpose?
šŸ’Ŗ Did I challenge myself appropriately?
šŸ’Ŗ Did I make progress?

Don’t just train to get tired. Train to get better. Train to get stronger. Train to live your life to the fullest.

Strength Gives People Freedom.
