Most golfers practice putts. The best golfers practice putts with a purpose.
Here’s a drill I use with my students that does two things at once: it simulates real game pressure AND collects the data you need to find your actual weaknesses on the green.
I call it the Putting Matrix. Here’s how it works 👇
✅ Set up 5 stations around a single hole
✅ At each station: one putt from 3 feet, one from 6 feet
✅ Goal: make both before moving on
✅ Total: 10 putts, 5 positions, full loop around the hole
Track every result. Make it, miss it — write it down or log it in an app.
Why does this matter? Because “I need to work on my putting” isn’t a plan. Knowing you’re 4 for 5 on 3-footers but 1 for 5 on 6-footers? That’s a plan.
I missed my 6-footer in this video. Happens to everyone — including me. The difference is knowing it’s a pattern vs. a fluke.
Practice this consistently and you’ll stop guessing what’s holding your score back. You’ll know.

The split hands drill is a top drill for teaching and correcting positioning at transition.

For many early extension takes away power and accuracy this drill is a great way to correct that. This is a natural drill for hockey players but something that can help anyone. Follow for more tips to improve your game!!
