Day 1 of the Pennsbury Invitational is in the books and the 16U team took home 2 victories today thanks to some big flys by Aala Allen, Emma Bare and Alaina Torrence as these as 3 kept their memberships in good standing. Ironically, Allen hit a 3-run bomb, Torrence a 2-run blast while Bare had a solo shot. Hopefully, the next homer will be a grand slam.

The 16U team got an inspirational lift from Alaina Torrence. On Saturday, Alaina blasted two home runs but also cut her knee open. The cut required 6 stitches to close. But despite the injury, Alaina suited up and performed as the team's designated hitter today. She went 2 for 5 during Sunday's 3 games and she knocked in a run in each game. Truly, a remarkable and inspirational performance that was not lost on her teammates or coaches.

Congratulations to 16U for winning the USSSA "Fun in the Sun" 16U Open event. Everyone wrote this team off 6 weeks ago but these girls and their tremendous coaches don't know when to quit and have shown themselves to be a very resilient group. They've made it to three straight tournament finals, winning the last two and now they head to the by invitation only -- Pennsbury Invitational Showcase to put their skills on display in front of many college coaches as they prepare to be the next crop of Lightning college players.

14U’s Loralei Toth got two wins on the day as she started and won a tough 4-2 game vs. the MD Stars and then came on in relief in the final game of the day against the DE Finest and picked up the win in relief. The 14U team joined 16U and 18U with 3-0 days during pool play at the USSSA’s Fun In the Sun tournament. Can 14U and their older sisters keep it going on championship Sunday?

The annual golf outing (in August) will not only -- once again -- benefit the Dan Funk Legacy Foundation but will also benefit Lightning players. Based on the funds raised, all current and former LIghtning players are eligible to write an essay about Coach Dan or any other coach that has positively impacted their life. The Dan Funk Legacy Foundation and Churchville Lightning will award 3 scholarships annually. Scholarships can be used for private high schools, colleges or trade schools. More details to come!! Dan Funk lives on in our hearts and minds and his impact for the players of the program he loved will also live on!!

After a big year at Salisbury, 18U's Audrey March made a mockery of the pitching at the Lancaster Showcase. March went 11 for 12 for a .917 Batting average. Her lone non-hit was missile that almost killed the opposing team's first baseman -- resulting in March reaching on the error. She scored 12 runs and knocked in 15. She had 7 extrabase hits to have an incredible 2.083 SLG Percentage and a 3.083 OPS. Already the program's All Time Home Run Queen, Audrey has a chance to be in the All Time Top Ten in 10 of 15 Offensive Categories. Make your lasting mark in your 10th and final season in a Lightning uniform.
