Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park We are a 501(c)7 private membership facility run by a paid staff and an elected (unpaid/volunteer) board of directors.

Established in 1954 on 72 acres, the park is Alaska’s most extensive private shooting facility.

Saturday, Sept 12 — Bang N' Clang Steel Silhouette (Alaska Rifle Club)

Looking for a fun way to get more involved at Birchwood? Join a shotgun league!

BRSP Shotgun Leagues offer friendly, team-based competition for shooters of all experience levels. Whether you are brand new to the clay target sports or have been shooting for years, leagues are a great way to enjoy time on the range, sharpen your skills, and meet other members.

You do not need to arrive with a complete team. We can help match individual shooters with a team, and couples who would like to shoot together can be placed on the same team whenever possible.

The weather is looking good—make the most of it while it lasts! ☀️

We all know how quickly Alaska conditions can change. While the weather is favorable, it is a great time to get outside, enjoy the range, and spend some quality time practicing.

Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park is open until 10:00 p.m. tonight, so there is still plenty of time to come out for a few hours at the range.

Whether you are working on your rifle, pistol, or shotgun skills—or simply enjoying a little time outdoors—come make the most of a good Alaska day.

Please remember to check the range schedule, follow all posted range rules, and be courteous to fellow members.

NRA America’s Rifle Challenge is coming back to Birchwood!

Ready to put your rifle skills to the test in a safe, practical, and welcoming competitive environment? Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park is hosting the NRA America’s Rifle Challenge (ARC) beginning September 10, 2026.

ARC blends marksmanship and skills training with competition. Whether you are new to competitive shooting or an experienced shooter looking for a new challenge, ARC stages range from simple to more complex—with minimal gear requirements.

Match series: September 10–October 22, 2026
Setup begins: 4:30 p.m.
Shooting starts promptly: 6:00 p.m
Location: 20269 Birchwood Spur Rd, Chugiak, AK 99567

Bring a safe, functional AR-15, a sling, magazines, eye and ear protection, and appropriate ammunition.

Important: No green-tip or steel-core ammunition.

The BRSP Rifle/Pistol Beginner’s League is a 10-week, coached introduction to safe and friendly action shooting competition.

With gradual week-by-week progression and direct Range Officer supervision, this league is built for beginner shooters and those who are new to competition.

Eligible fi****ms include .22LR rifles and pistols, non-magnum centerfire pistols, and pistol-caliber carbines. Some restrictions apply.

BRSP members, staff, and non-members—non-members may participate for one season—are welcome to sign up.

Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park is partnering with Phalanx Academy for two focused training opportunities:

Handgun Presentation Classroom class — September 2nd from 6 - 9 pm

Handgun Speed Range class — September 3rd from 6 - 9 pm

These classes are designed for shooters who want structured, instructor-led practice in a safe, supportive training environment. Whether you are working to strengthen your fundamentals or looking to improve your performance with purposeful coaching, this is an opportunity to train with intention.
