For years, workout programs have lived in random Google templates, clunky Excel sheets, and generic plans that don’t actually know the person training.

Over the last 3 years, I’ve been building something different.

Forge Strength is a training system designed to help create smarter programs for beginners, intermediate lifters, advanced athletes, and coaches who want more structure without losing control.

This first look is focused on powerlifting prep — but this is only one piece of what the app is being built to do.

Program generation.
Meet prep structure.
Exercise selection.
Weak point inputs.
Readiness tools.
Workout logging.
Coach review.
Real training context.

This is just the beginning.

Calories aren’t bad. They’re just energy.

If you’re a beginner, stop thinking of calories like they’re some secret evil thing hiding in your food. A calorie is just a unit of energy your body uses to stay alive, move, train, recover, and function.

Want to lose weight? You usually need fewer calories than you burn.
Want to gain muscle? You usually need enough calories to support training and recovery.
Want to maintain? You need roughly enough to match output.

That’s it at the basic level.

The hard part isn’t that calories are complicated. It’s that fitness people love making simple things sound mysterious.

Learn the basics first, then worry about the details.

Drop “CALORIES” in the comments and I’ll make more beginner-friendly breakdowns.

Tripods in the gym need to be normalized.

Not because people are trying to be influencers.
Because sometimes filming your sets is the fastest way to fix your form, track progress, and actually see what you’re doing under load.

A tripod can show you:
your squat depth
your bar path
your setup
your tempo
and the stuff you swear you’re doing right… but aren’t.

Used respectfully, it’s a tool. Not a problem.

Film your lifts.
Review your lifts.
Improve your lifts.

accidentally shared one of the best beginner fitness habits.

Not because pull-ups are magic.

Because he attached exercise to something he already does every day.

That’s why this works: Most beginners fail because they wait until they feel motivated, have enough time, or finally feel “ready.”

This skips all of that.
You use the bathroom.
You see the bar.
You do the reps.
That builds consistency fast.

And if you can’t do a pull-up yet, that does not mean this idea isn’t for you.
Do: dead hangs
slow negatives
band pulldowns
doorway rows
or even bodyweight squats

The lesson is not “be able to do pull-ups.”
The lesson is: attach a simple movement to a habit you already do every day, and make getting started too easy to avoid.
That’s how a lot of people should start their fitness journey.

Small effort.
Repeated often.
Done for real.

Speed had the right idea.

As thanksgiving winds down I'd like to just take a minute to say thank you to all of our wonderful members. whether you've supported us for years, months, or even days. This humble gym of ours wouldn't be possible without each and every one of you.

This poorly painted wall is plastered with some of the names that have made this place go from an empty warehouse to a home for our family.

Over the last 6 years we've produced tons of fat lost, dozens of new powerlifters, and literal thousands of pounds in personal bests set and beaten.

Here's to many more years, we love and appreciate all of you! Happy Thanksgiving!
