Hope you enjoy this from “Paddle On Paradise”!

Three or four bends into the paddle I heard a commotion in the distance. I wasn’t sure what it was at first, but when I recognized a human scream I kicked in the pedal drive and began paddling as fast as I could toward the sound.

At first the scene did’t make sense as I tried to understand what I was seeing. There were arms flailing, heads bobbing, floating life jackets and what looked like the bottom of a canoe. The two figures were struggling as if they couldn’t swim, so I immediately propelled my kayak over to the wet mess.
“Hey! I’m here to help you, grab hold of the boat.”
Two young boys, with eyes the size of golf balls spitting mouth fulls of water began clawing at the water to reach me.
“Help! gurgle, help! gurgle.

I had only gone a hundred yards, when I saw a boat coming toward me. At first I didn't realize it was them. Then I saw a guy stand up holding a rifle. Without thinking I veered toward the shore to head for cover. As soon as I hit the bank I grabbed the pistol and went for the biggest tree I could find. Lucky for me a huge cypress was a few yards away. Just as I dove behind it I heard back to back shots as they ricocheted off the surrounding trees. My heart was pumping so fast I could hear my pulse in my ears. "Hey, you son of bitch we're gonna blow you away." I immediately put two bullets in the hull of their boat. I had to let them know I wasn't going to give up easy. Buying some time I called Tim again. "Tim, I am under fire." "Rivers the rangers are on their way." Two more bullets burst into the big cypress as I disconnected the call. I hope you enjoyed another excerpt from my soon to be published book "Paddle on Paradise".

I was now about 300 yards from the mouth of the creek. When I scanned the shore with my zoom lens all the way down to the inlet, I caught a glimpse of a red kayak. It appeared to be moving into the surf at the beginning of the open water. It took me a few seconds to recall what Ron said about his concern of the single woman he rented to. That in mind, I switched modes from photographer to skilled kayaker with rescue training.

Hope you enjoyed another excerpt from my book "Paddle On Paradise".

Just as I was putting my camera away, a van with a trailer pulled into the campground. A young guy stuck his head out the window and asked if I was Mr. Walker.“Yeah, but call me Rivers,” I replied.“Sure no problem, I’m Jackson. You going up to Anderson’s Launch?” “That’s right, can you help me load my kayak?”Hopping out of the van, we got the kayak secured, and I loaded the remaining gear.“You all set to leave?”“Yes, the van is already locked up.”“That’s a great ‘yak you have — doing some fishing with that rig?”“I do some fishing, but I mainly use it for photography. I’m photographing the coastal waterways for Outdoor World Magazine.” Hope you enjoyed reading a little snip-it from my soon to be released ebook on Kindle (KDP). Please share with all your family and friends. Thank You!
