🌿 Honoring Native American Heritage — Chocowinity, NC 🌿

In recognition of Native American Day, we take a moment to remember the Native peoples whose history is woven into the story of Eastern North Carolina.

Did you know the name Chocowinity has Native American roots?

The community was originally known as Godley’s Crossroads, but by the late 1800s the name Chocowinity had come into use, taken from the nearby creek.

Historical sources identify the name as likely having Tuscarora origins. (Stock photo attached). The traditional local interpretation of “Chocowinity” is “fish from many waters.” According to a story dating to 1928, Rev. N.C. Hughes was told this meaning by a Native American man he met in South Carolina.
There is also a later linguistic interpretation that connects the name to the Tuscarora word “chackauene,” meaning “otter.”

Whatever interpretation you follow, the name serves as a reminder that Chocowinity's story reaches back long before the community we know today.
Today, we honor the Native peoples who lived on and cared for these lands and recognize the enduring influence of their history and culture. 🌿❤️

We’re getting ready for our Annual First Responders Appreciation Tournament!

This special event is our way of saying THANK YOU to the men and women who answer the call and serve our community every day. From firefighters and EMS to law enforcement and all of our dedicated first responders — we appreciate you more than words can say! ❤️💙

We’re looking forward to a great day filled with golf, fellowship, fun, and a whole lot of appreciation for those who do so much for others.

🇺🇸 Never Forget. 🇺🇸

September 11, 2001 — a day we will never forget.

Most of us can remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news. We remember the shock, the disbelief, and the tears that fell as we watched the events unfold. We remember the lives that were lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who ran toward danger while others were running away.

But we also remember something else — how this country came together.

For a time, our differences seemed small. We stood together. We prayed together. We grieved together. We looked out for one another, and we were reminded of what it truly meant to be Americans.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, the first responders and heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

May we never forget their names, their stories, their families, or the courage and unity that followed.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we’re giving a BIG shoutout to the one who works behind the scenes to keep Cypress Landing Golf Course looking its best — Stan Elliott! 👏

Since 2009, Stan has poured countless hours, hard work, and dedication into caring for our course. From early mornings to long days, through heat, rain, and everything Mother Nature throws his way, Stan and his team are always working to keep our greens, fairways, and grounds in top shape. 🌿💪

We’re incredibly grateful for everything you do, Stan! Your dedication and commitment are a huge part of what makes Cypress Landing special.
Thank you for 17+ years of keeping us green! 💚

⛳️💕 Putt, Tac, Toe & Fellowship! 💕⛳️
Several of our ladies got together for a fun afternoon of Putt Tac Toe on the putting green! 🏌️‍♀️✨

After a little friendly competition, everyone enjoyed a delicious spread of chicken salad, tuna salad, fresh veggies, chips, dessert, and plenty of good fellowship. 🥗🍰💕

It was the perfect combination of fun, food, and friendship! We love seeing our ladies come together and enjoy time at the course. ❤️⛳️

Mother Nature had a different idea for our Nine, Wine & Dine event this evening—and in this business, she generally wins! 🤣🌧️

Due to the rain, we had to drop the “Nine,” and while our ladies were a little bummed about missing out on the golf, there were absolutely no complaints when it came to the “Wine & Dine” portion! 🍷🍽️

We still enjoyed a wonderful evening of good food, wine, laughter, and fellowship. Sometimes you just have to roll with Mother Nature! ❤️

We’ll hopefully get that Nine in next time! ⛳️🍷
