Chippewa Yacht Club Private sailing and social club on Chippewa Lake, Ohio
AYFSA Y-Flyer Fleet #4
SCIRA Snipe Fleet #621

Since 1939, Chippewa Yacht Club has fostered, encouraged, and engaged our members in the sport of sailing. Located on the shores of beautiful Chippewa Lake, Ohio, our purpose is to promote recreational and competitive sailing and to provide entertaining social events for our members, families, and guests. We are the home to racing Y-Flyer Fleet #4 of the American Y-Flyer Sailing Association and Sn

ipe Fleet #621 of the Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA). C*C’s Sunday afternoon races have been a familiar sight to those on the lake for more than 80 years.

C*C is active from April through October with races, regattas, and social events. Members are dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of the club and volunteer their time to help keep the cost of annual dues as low as possible. Our members also enjoy the club at their leisure to entertain and picnic with family and friends, launch their kayaks for a relaxing cruise or take in Chippewa Lake's stunning sunsets.

Building the Yacht Club
The roots of the Chippewa Yacht Club run deep, built on a foundation of local craftsmanship and a love for the water. ⛵️
In 1927, Rector Quinton founded the club and served as its very first commodore. He was a true hands-on leader—he even built the club’s first Y-flyer right in his own basement!
Before World War II, Willard “Steve” Stephenson was instrumental in physically building the Yacht Club and served as commodore for two years. 🛠️
Steve’s time on Chippewa Lake unexpectedly prepared him for the global stage. When he enlisted in the Army, his experience on our waters led to an assignment with the Army Corps of Engineers for amphibious duty.

We want to hear from you!
The history of the Yacht Club is made up of the families who built it, sailed it, and kept the tradition alive.
