If we have any kiddos/young adults looking for bikes, please reach out to Florida Youth Triathlon! We can’t wait to host them at our event!

If your child is aged 6-14, there’s a very strong chance we have a road bike to lend them. We take great care to make sure the kids who borrow from us get a consistent riding experience across the board.

Which one is best for your child? Here’s a breakdown:

1. 20-24 inch road bikes (Ages 6-9). These bikes are all equipped with 1x9 speed drivetrains, all have cranks 145mm or shorter, and come with child-specific handlebars and short-reach shifters. These are best suited for riders 4’3” in to about 4’9”

2. Fuji Ace 650 – (Ages 7-12) This is our bread-and-butter bike. It was the most commercially available kids road bike for about 10 years. We make significant upgrades from the factory versions of this bike, shedding around 3-4 lbs in the process. All have a 35 cm frame, and are equipped with a 1x10 speed drivetrain, 36 cm handlebars, and 152mm (or shorter) cranks. These bikes are all virtually identical in form and function, except for the color. Fuji Ace 650’s will fit a large range of heights from approximately 4’5” to about 5’0”. If you ask to borrow from FYT, this will likely be the first bike we offer you.

3. Larger 650c bikes – (Ages vary) These all have 650c wheels (rare these days), and usually come in frame sizes of 40 - 46cm. They are the perfect race bike for kids ages 10-12 because they accelerate faster than a 700c bike and make it easier for the rider to maintain an aerodynamic position without making major compromises on things such as stem length and rider position relative to the cranks. Quite simply, they fit small riders better. All our 650c bikes have cranks 165mm or shorter, and they are set up as 1x, or 2x depending on parts availability. These are best suited for riders 4’8” to 5’0”.

4. Extra Small 700c Road Bikes – (Ages vary) There is significant size overlap between these and Larger 650c bikes. 700c wheeled bikes do not accelerate as quickly as 650c ones, but maintain their speed much better once established. They are also more difficult to handle than their 650c counterparts, but ease of obtaining parts for them makes them a solid option. All of ours have 165mm or shorter cranks, and come in a variety of drivetrains from 1x to 3x depending on parts availability. These come in frame sizes from 43 cm through 46 cm, and are best suited for riders 4’8 “to 5’2”.

5. Small 700c Road bikes – (Ages vary) These are the largest bikes we stock. All have 700c wheels, and come in frame sizes from 47 cm to 51 cm. All of ours have 165mm or shorter cranks, and come in a variety of drivetrains from 1x to 3x depending on parts availability. They are best suited for riders from 5’2” through 5’4”..
