2022 Induction Team: 1985 Chicopee Comp AA Conference Football Team
In the words of 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee, Mr. Steven Jendrysik, The “Pony Express” rides again!
This time, it’s into the 2022 Chicopee Public Schools Hall of Fame.
The 1985 Comp Colts finished as the 2nd Comp football team to be Western Mass AA Champions, and to represent Western Mass in the Super Bowl.
The 1985 Colts used a high-powered “Triple Option” offense (OFF Avg 32 ppg and an attack style defense (Def avg 11.9ppg), to outscore their opponents by a whopping score of 353-131. The season, was highlighted by (4) shutouts, while establishing school records for points scored in games (55 points vs Chicopee; in the annual “Sword Game), (60 points vs Springfield Classical, and (62 points vs West Springfield in the 2nd half Blizzard game).
The 1985 Comp Colts were coached by (4) future Chicopee Public Schools Hall of Fame Inductees:
Dr. Thomas Skypeck – Class of 2009
Fred Zabik – Class of 2009
Jim Budness – Class of 2010, Class of 2017 (CHS Team)
Steve Lemanski – Class of 2017 (CHS Team)
What made this Comp Colts football team special?
In the words of Hall of Fame Inductee, Shawn Malone, “We were a team built on “Teamwork”, “Coachable” and “Accountability”. We knew, as a team, we had each other’s back in any given situation!”
Team Accomplishments

#1 Beat your crosstown rival (Chicopee)!
#2 Compete for AA Conference Championship * Won in dramatic fashion vs Westfield 15-10.
#3 Win Thanksgiving game at South Hadley.
#4 Win Super Bowl.
• The 1985 Comp Colts football team is the only team with a sports documentary “The Pony Express”; narrated by Hall of Fame Inductee, Mr. Steven Jendrysik, Class of 2010.
