Congratulations Chief Cross.

Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski is pleased to announce that Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Cross has been selected for appointment as the next Fire Chief of the Chicopee Fire Department.
Deputy Chief Cross is a lifelong Chicopee resident who joined the Chicopee Fire Department in 1996 and has proudly served the community for over three decades, rising through the ranks as Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief since 2015. Most recently, he earned the highest overall score in the Civil Service Assessment Center process.
Deputy Chief Cross is a graduate of the Department of Fire Services Chief Fire Officer Management Program and holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science. He has served on the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response Team for 17 years and currently serves as technical support and truck manager. He is also an instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.
Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Cross has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as the Department’s Executive Officer for more than two years, helping guide and support the department through unprecedented challenges. He has also secured more than $1.8 million in state and federal grant funding to support the department and its mission.
In addition to his service in the fire department, Deputy Chief Cross is an active volunteer with the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, helping address food insecurity in our communities.

Today the Chicopee Battle of the Badges Hockey Team donated $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Battle of the Badges—an incredible milestone for this volunteer organization made up of members of the Chicopee Police and Fire Departments. Over the years, Battle of the Badges has supported not only the Boys & Girls Club, but also Lorraine's Soup Kitchen & Pantry, Inc., and have provided scholarships to students at Chicopee Comprehensive High School and Chicopee High School.
Cheers to 10 years of dedication, generosity, and community service!

Chicopee Battle of the Badges: 10 Years of Tradition!

What an incredible night at the rink for our 10th Annual Battle of the Badges! The energy was high, the hits were big, and the community spirit was even bigger.

The Results:

A massive congratulations to the Chicopee Fire Department on securing the threepeat! 🔥 In a hard-fought battle on the ice, the Fire Department took home the trophy once again with a 9-6 victory over the Chicopee Police Department. Both teams played with incredible heart, and we couldn't be prouder of our local heroes.

Giving Back to Chicopee:

While the scoreboard settled the rivalry, the real win happened in the stands. Thanks to your generosity, we raised a grand total of:

$8,000

We are thrilled to announce that these funds will stay right here in our community:

$4,000 is being donated to the Chicopee Boys and Girls Club to support their amazing youth programs.

The remainder will go toward scholarships for student-athletes at both Chicopee High School and Chicopee Comp High School.
