Gary Alexander –Yogi
Stillness. Breath. Strength. Awareness and openness of body and mind. Centering of spirit. It was not long after Gary took his first yoga class a dozen years ago that he realized that yoga would become an important part of his life. After deepening his yoga practice for several years, Gary trained as an instructor and received his yoga teaching certification in 2009 from one
of Chicago's premier yoga training programs and studios. In addition to his teacher training, Gary has participated in two week-long intensive yoga retreats and several workshops on various areas of yoga and teaching: meditation; pranayama; and therapeutic physical adjustments. Since he began teaching in 2010, Gary has become a well- respected and popular instructor. He now teaches between 10 and 12 classes a week. His classes, whether in a large group setting or one-on-one, whether in a gym, corporate office, or a church, combine the best of vinyasa yoga with an emphasis on breath, flowing physical movement, and centering of the mind. Gary has expertise in teaching all levels of students from beginners and those with physical limitations to more advanced yogis ready for a more challenging practice. He is a popular instructor at Fitness Formula Clubs where he teaches several classes a week and at Ganesha Yoga in Lakeview. Wanting to bring yoga out of the gym and studio, Gary started yoga programs at Chicago’s St. James Episcopal Cathedral and at Church of Our Saviour in Lincoln Park. He has also led several corporate workshops and classes. Gary is also Chicago’s leading expert on “doga,” yoga for you and your dog. He started these occasional classes in 2013 and it became so popular that Huffington Post singled it out as one of the more unique workouts in 2014. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/purewow/10-of-the-craziest-workou_b_6417032.html
