Goldfish Swim School - Wicker Park Teaching kids how to swim is our passion. Goldfish is much more than a swim school. Goldfish prides itself on offering each parent and child a Golden Experience.

Goldfish Swim School – Wicker Park is a state-of-the art swimming facility dedicated to teaching children as early as 4 months how to swim. From the moment you walk in the door, you enter a tropical oasis. Brightly colored walls, tiki cabanas and surfboard benches surrounding our island-style hair drying station border our pool, abuzz with the sounds of kids kicking and hands-on swimming instruction. At the pool deck, kids dive into an always-tropical 90-degree pool. In a class size of no more than 4 children to 1 swim instructor, children master the skills they need to be safe and confident in the water. Beginning as early as 4 months, children progress through a series of perpetual swimming lessons, graduating to higher levels of difficulty as swimming skills are mastered. Goldfish also offers special events like birthday parties, family swim, accelerated Jump Start Clinics and our Goldfish Swim Team, catered to swimmers who have completed the Goldfish Pro Level. Goldfish Swim School – Wicker Park is proud to help teach the children of great community of Chicago, IL how to swim and be safer in the water. Owners Bob and Kathy Ryan encourage you to stop by for a tour of our facilities. We guarantee you’ll love it at Goldfish! To learn more, please visit www.goldfishswimschool.com.

“How do I know if my child is making progress in swim lessons?”

Here’s the thing: progress doesn’t always come with a new level or a ribbon. 👀

Look for the little changes, too:
🌊 Are they more comfortable in the water?
💪 Is a skill looking stronger than it did a few weeks ago?
🏊 Are they doing something with less help?
✨ Did they try something they weren’t ready to try before?

Those moments add up.

Learning to swim is a progression of skills, and sometimes the best way to see how far your kiddo has come is to look back at where they started. 🧡

Wondering what goals your swimmer is working toward? Ask their instructor about the skills they’re building now and what comes next!

Ever wonder what your child’s swim instructor is watching for? 👀

They’re watching how your swimmer moves through the water, responds to different cues, where they’re getting stronger and which skills could use a little more practice. Then, they can meet your kiddo where they are and help them work toward what comes next. 🏊

It’s what makes our curriculum so effective: skills build on one another, while our instructors help each swimmer keep progressing at their own pace. 🧡

Because the next step looks different for every swimmer, and knowing what to work on next is a big part of making progress.

Next lesson, ask your little fish: “What are you working on today?”

You might be surprised by how much they know. 😉🐠

When the thing they’ve been working SO hard on finally clicks… 🥹👏

Maybe it’s the float they couldn’t quite get. The stroke they’ve practiced week after week. Swimming farther on their own. Or hearing those magic words: “You’re moving up!” 🎉

The BIG milestones are worth celebrating, but so are all the little wins it took to get there.

Because progress isn’t just about the next level. It’s every new skill, stronger stroke, and proud “I DID IT!” along the way. 🧡

It’s easy to look at the swimmer in the next lane and wonder, “Should my kiddo be there by now?” 👀
But swim progress isn’t one-size-fits-all.

For one little fish, a BIG win might be putting their face in the water. For another, it’s floating independently, mastering a new stroke or moving up a level. 🏊

Different swimmers. Different starting points. Different milestones worth celebrating.

So if you’ve caught yourself comparing (hi, you’re human, we all do it 😉), look back at where YOUR swimmer started. That’s where you’ll see just how far they’ve come. 🧡

“What if my child is scared of swim lessons?”

If your kiddo clings a little tighter before class, feels unsure about getting in or needs extra time before trying a new skill, you’re probably wondering: Should I keep going?

Feeling nervous around something new can take time to work through. That’s why progress doesn’t always look like swimming across the pool.

Sometimes progress looks like getting in the water. 💧
Putting their face in for the first time.
Trying the skill they said “no” to last week.
Or getting out of the pool saying, “I did it!” 🥹

Those small wins matter. With consistent opportunities to practice and support from their swim instructor, kiddos can work toward greater comfort and confidence at their own pace. 🧡

What small swim win are you celebrating lately?

Ever watch swim lessons and think, “Wait…didn’t they practice that last week?” 👀

Yep, and there’s a reason! 🙌

Those kicks, pulls, crab walks, breaths, and floats get stronger with practice. Consistent lessons give kiddos the chance to keep working on what they know while building the skills they’re ready to tackle next.

So when you see your little fish doing it AGAIN (and again…and again 😅), know that repetition is helping turn practice into progress. 🧡

P.S. Who can tell us the name of our octopus friend shown here? Bonus points if you can tell us why we included her! 🐙

“How long will it take my child to learn to swim?” 🏊

It’s one of the biggest questions swim parents have, and the answer is: there isn’t one timeline that fits every swimmer.

Age, previous experience, comfort in the water, and consistency with lessons can all play a role in how kiddos progress. And learning to swim isn’t one single milestone! Skills build on each other over time, from getting comfortable in the water to floating, kicking, breathing, and swimming more independently.

So instead of watching the calendar, watch for the progress. 🧡

That new skill they couldn't do before? That little bit more independence? That’s learning to swim happening right in front of you. 🌊

That moment when “I can’t” becomes “WATCH ME!” 🥹🧡

You know the look. That HUGE smile when they realize they just did something they weren’t sure they could do.

Maybe it’s putting their face in the water. Floating on their own. Swimming a little farther than last time. Whatever the milestone, watching your kiddo realize what they’re capable of? That’s the good stuff. ✨

What’s your little fish’s latest “WATCH ME!” moment? 👇
