The fact is, access to is not the same for everyone. The wealth gap between white and black in the US is 10 to 1, points out Jason Burns of , who helped facilitate this morning’s Empowering Youth workout. We’ve gotta be honest about the fact this exists, he says, so that we can do something about it.

Some people already are: , and exist to eliminate the barriers that Black and Brown people face in pursuit of the healthy and active lifestyles from which they have been historically excluded.

Leaders like Jason, and others are doing the work—providing affordable and accessible health and fitness services and mentorship. Affiliate owners can help by providing a space and creating the opportunity for this work to happen. “If you’re in a position to do something to help, help,” says Jason. The little things are the big things, agrees, quoting Dr. King: “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

If the community can get around this work, maybe we can do both.

Last weekend we honored the sacrifice of our military heroes by completing the MURPH WOD.

This hero workout is not only physically challenging but mentally challenging as well.

Many times we wanted to stop; questioning ourselves, but the bigger meaning of the workout became the motivation.
