A peek into what my workouts are looking like lately 👀

Slowly building miles, slowly adding in some run intensity, lots of longer bike workouts, and continuing to be consistent with strength 💪🏼

I had a flareup of PF back in February and it stuck around longer than I wanted but it’s barely noticeable now, for which I’m thankful 😌

A little less strength this week cuz it was a busy week and I know as mileage grows, I’ll continue to modify strength based on how my body is recovering from workouts and time I have to train.

Excited to be noticing some fitness increases already in the last few months of bike workouts and looking forward to continuing the build!

Races to add to your bucket list, part 10! 💥

This series is designed to show you all the great races out there to consider that aren’t the Marathon Majors and to potentially add to your bucket list.

I’ve run a half or full in 37 States and 7 countries (and counting) so these are all races I’ve actually done and can share the good (and not so good) 🏅

Upon further reflection, I bumped up my rating for Parks Half because they did have a good food spread at the end and nice swag (a blanket + a Brooks LS participant shirt). But everything else I said about it stands!

RACE READY CLOSES TONIGHT!🔥

It’s always scary to invest in yourself…because that means you’re being seen trying and puts you on the hook for actually leveling up and doing the thing you said you wanted to do.

Change is hard. The unknown is hard. But so is staying stuck….running the same marathon time over and over, even though it feels like you’re putting in more work than before. Always getting the same aches + pains when you start to build for a race. Starting out strong and then fizzling out as the training cycle goes along because life got in the way and you didn’t know how to adjust. Always bonking on long runs or in the race, even though everything else in training seemingly went well.

The mental part of training and racing is HUGE and often not talked about enough. It’s something I prioritize in my Race Ready Program as well.

Running on pain can be a fine line between making it worse…or not.

A lot of runners skew in one direction or another, in terms of their comfort with running with some pain. But there is a messy middle and knowing when it’s ok versus when to pull back is often something you just need to learn from experience.

Note that if you are dealing with a diagnosed bone stress injury, these slides largely do not apply and you should be working with a professional to rest for the appropriate amount of time and then a return to run progression.

What if you could get better results from a group program than from 1:1 coaching? 👀

That’s what happened with .with.michelyne , who’s completed the Race Ready Program twice now, hitting goals in both the half marathon and marathon distances.

There are a lot of factors that influence your performance and unless a coach takes a wholistic view of training - which most newer coaches don’t have the experience to do - you’re not going to get as much out of the coaching. I’m a better coach now than I was 4-5 years ago and certainly much better than 10 years ago when I started coaching. Experience, continued learning, and looking at the data has all helped and allowed to create a program like Race Ready that can get you the same or better results as a 1:1 coach elsewhere…for a fraction of the price.
