WALT EISIN: GRIFFIN
If you ask Walt sideline, or at a function what he thinks of the modern game he would tell you that he doesn't like all the cards and that as a Philosophy Major out of Holy Cross College Worcester, Massachusetts, where he graduated in 1964, that cards should be something that is only played on the Bus when traveling to away games. He would frown and add that if cards were around in his day he would have earnt less than half the caps he played for the Griffins since making his debut for the Club in only its second year, 1974.
Walt is a history buff and also a Lawyer having attended Law School at U of I, Urbana, Champaign. He is a lover of rugby and of his adopted club and played into the 90's at Old Boys level, having also played for the Midwest select side and the Presidents XV in 1999 (see photo below) during a long, storied and illustrious senior rugby playing career.
Fellow players describe Walt as a tough competitor and that combination of being a philosopher, front row player and Lawyer put him in a unique position at times of prosecuting opposition players he would come up against that in his view had impinged upon the Law and at scrum time he would invite them to approach the bench to face some justice!
Walt lights up whenever he see's his buddies sideline or at functions and it's always appreciated by Club members when Ruth Marie and their two Daughters Pfeffer and Audra take the time to come out and support the team or attend a function.
We appreciate your decades of commitment and support for your beloved Griffins Walt!

MATCH RESULT: W
GRIFFINS 45 v CINCINNATI WOLFHOUNDS 43
Road wins in the Midwest are tough to get.
When organizational, logistical and commitment levels are considered, there can occasionally arise a level of adversity and a set of circumstances that can unify a team. Complimented with a few wise words from leadership and demonstrations of composure under pressure it occasionally results in a very special on-field performance.
The as a whole can be very proud of this one from a young side that fronted up big time to come back from a deficit to find a way to win a high scoring nail biter!
Well done lads for staying in the fight and coming out with your result!
This week is a BYE week...

GEORGE HOUDE: GRIFFIN

This is George Houde on the charge and at one of the three parties he went to during the years he played rugby.

In 1976 Griffin Member at Large Buzz Frank recruited George out of the Schlitz tournament in Milwaukee and George started playing for the Griffins in 1977.

Voted MVP on the Clubs first tour to Canada, he was also awarded the prestigious Griffins Griffin trophy in 1982.

A walk on football player at UW Milwaukee (where he also came to know about rugby) he graduated from there with a degree in Journalism which he puts to valuable use for the Griffins to this day as the author of its regular newsletter.

As a player George dabbled on the wing and came to understand forwards from a couple of games at ho**er before ultimately settling in as a halfback where he put his unique understanding of forwards to good effect by steering them around the park, turning them around at halftime and pointing them in the new direction of play. He was also very persuasive at trying to get referee's to change their decisions.

Outside of rugby George has led a colorful life as depicted in this podcast

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lumberjack-lore-podcast/id1659098047?i=1000683084431

He is a well-respected, much loved and valued member of the Chicago Griffins Club, a consistent sideline supporter who often makes an effort to attend away games, and he also MC's the Club' annual fundraising Gala.

George likes B**r!

We all thank you for your decades of dedicated service to the Chicago Griffins RFC.
