Ahoy Beercan Racers,

The weather looks great for racing tonight, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone on the water for the second week in a row. After tonight there are only 5 races left in the Beercan series, and most sections are still up for grabs.

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the WakeRout app.

This app is available for IOS and Android can be downloaded for free and used to track your progress as you race. It is packed with features that show your performance. It lets you see where you are fast and slow on the race course, how much time you lose on each tack, and your average VMG amoung many others. The best part about this app is that it is being developed by Dimitry Braznichenko who owns and races the J/105 Sivka out of Montose Harbor. The app was just launched this spring and is already being used as far away as Seattle, Detroit, and Martha's Vinyard, Mass.

The other great thing about the app is that it lets us display the tracking for the whole fleet at the club after the race, and we will be doing this every week for the rest of the summer. Every boat that successfully posts their WakeRoute at least 3 times this summer will recieve a personalized blueprint line drawing of their boat at the end of the season. I think this would look amazing next week a the 100 Boats on a Beercan as well.

Best results are achieved by having a crew member assigned to download the app and turn it on at the begining of the race. Skippers have enough on their hands on Wednesday. Once this is done, there is nothing more to do but turn it off at the end of the race to upload your track.

Let's have a great race tonight and support one of our own sailors who is doing big things to advance the sport of sailing.

Baby, It's HOT Outside!

Summer is here! Stay safe while "RACING IN THE HOT" tomorrow.

Heat Index Advisory for All Race Participants

High heat index conditions are expected tomorrow. Please take the following precautions to reduce the risk of heat illness during racing.

Hydration

• Begin hydrating before arrival; don’t wait until you feel thirsty.

• Maintain steady intake of water or electrolyte fluids throughout the race.

Workload Management

• Rotate high‑exertion tasks such as grinding, foredeck work, and spinnaker handling.

• Take brief recovery breaks when possible.

Clothing & Sun Protection

• Wear light‑colored, breathable clothing, a hat, and apply broad‑spectrum sunscreen.

• Reapply sunscreen regularly, especially in high wind or spray.

Health Considerations

• Individuals with cardiac conditions, arrhythmias, asthma, COPD, or other pulmonary issues should consider skipping tomorrow’s race due to elevated heat‑related risk.

Early Warning Signs

• Watch for heat exhaustion symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea, sudden fatigue, irritability.

• Slow down and cool off immediately if symptoms appear.
