Hyde Park School of Dance Hyde Park School of Dance (HPSD) is a nonprofit school renowned for providing top-notch training in ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop.

Hyde Park School of Dance provides opportunities for students of all ages to study, perform, and create classical and contemporary dance at the highest levels of discipline and artistry. We accept students of all and skill levels, whether their goals are professional or recreational. We have classes available for toddlers together with their parents or caregivers, drop-off classes for children age

d three and up, recreational and pre-professional training for children and teenagers, and drop-in classes for adults. Summer programming includes week-long and three-day workshops, our annual three-week dance intensive, and more. Serious dancers are invited to audition for our pre-professional youth company, a performance-focused corps of highly trained young dancers who perform original choreography at public events year-round. HPSD's free teacher training program educates children in the art of dance instruction, and creates opportunities for employment in the field after graduation from high school while developing mentoring relationships within our community. Hyde Park School of Dance is committed to making all aspects of dance accessible to our community. Our extensive outreach program puts low-cost dance classes into public schools, community centers, and parks all over the city. Our needs-based scholarship program exists to make our in-studio tuition affordable to any student who is serious about their training, and free and affordable public performances bring the joy of watching dance to new audiences year round. Today our studios begin filling again with movement, music, familiar faces, new faces, first classes, next steps, and all the energy of a new season.

Sundays move together at Hyde Park School of Dance.

Our Sunday schedule brings together some of our youngest dancers in First Steps, Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, and AcroDance, alongside Musical Theater and Yoga options for older youth, teens, and adults.

It’s a day that reflects what we hope HPSD feels like all week: different ages, different experiences, different reasons for dancing, all sharing space to move, learn, and belong.

Fridays find their groove at Hyde Park School of Dance.

Our Friday schedule moves from Pre-Ballet, Modern, and West African Dance foundations into advanced Ballet, Modern, and Pointe training, with West African Dance Foundations welcoming dancers ages 9 through adults.

There is no single way into dance and no single path forward. We want dancers to have room to build skills, challenge themselves, stay curious, and feel part of a community along the way.

After more than three decades of extraordinary artistic leadership, Hyde Park School of Dance celebrates the retirement of our Founding Artistic Director, August Tye.

Since co-founding HPSD in 1993, August has helped shape generations of dancers, teachers, artists, families, and leaders. What began with a small group of young dancers grew under her vision into a community where thousands have discovered not only a love of dance, but confidence, discipline, resilience, friendship, and belonging.

August's influence is woven throughout HPSD: in our classrooms and performances, in our commitment to excellence and inclusion, and especially in the generations of students and teachers she has inspired.

As August begins this new chapter closer to family in Michigan, she plans to continue sharing the joy of dance through teaching and hopes to remain connected to HPSD in new ways.

We are deeply grateful for the vision, care, creativity, and decades of dedication August has given this community.

Thank you, August. Your legacy will continue to move with us.

Four weeks. Countless hours of dancing, creating, learning, laughing, and growing. 💙

What you saw onstage at our Summer Showcase was so much more than one evening of performances.

Behind every dance were weeks of trying new styles, building strength, learning choreography, asking questions, encouraging friends, taking creative risks, and discovering what was possible together. Along the way, friendships grew, confidence blossomed, and our studios became a place where dancers could challenge themselves while supporting one another.

To our incredible dancers: thank you for your curiosity, courage, and joy.

To our dedicated faculty, accompanists, student teaching assistants, interns, volunteers, and families: thank you for the care, creativity, and commitment you poured into this summer. None of it happens without you.

We're so proud of everything this community created together, and we're grateful to have shared the culmination of that journey as a Community Cultural Arts Partner of the Logan Center for the Arts.

Here's to a summer we'll never forget. ☀️✨
