what if life & our current circumstances, didn’t have to feel so hard?
what if it could be more easy?
what if it could be more fun?
••
so often we make things harder & more complicated than they need to be! we overthink, over-plan, and overwork. we believe that if something is important or essential to do, it must also be tedious or require a tremendous amount of effort. our cultural distrust of ease & high value for doing hard things can feel like an impossibly heavy weight. but what if it didn’t have to? 🤍
what if the biggest thing that keeps us from doing what matters is that we think it is going to be really hard?
there’s a concept in cognitive psychology called perceptual load theory that basically says this: our brain’s capacity, albeit large, is limited!
when our brain is filled with clutter — negative emotions, outdated stories, anxious thought patterns — it does not operate optimally. almost like when a computer is operating slowly with too many programs or tabs open 🙈
our brains will always have to make a choice about how to allocate it’s available resources. so learning & implementing simple tactics to slow down the “hard drive” of your mind can reap many rewards for your mental & emotional health 🙌🏽
when we actively seek to remove the distractions in our mind & the burdens on our hearts through a practice of pausing, we begin to feel lighter. maybe we do this through prayer, journaling, a mindful transition, rest, a conversation with a trusted other, a bath, a seated meal, a walk, or anything else that allows you to pause. when our inherent capacities are restored, we can experience more energy, clearheadedness, and ease ✨
• ease is available to you.
• pausing is nourishing to you on every level.
• slower, simpler, and smaller is good too.
