Carlye is a professional Irish dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Oregon. She currently performs as both a musician and a dancer, and has toured the US and Ireland with various musical groups and her own dance company. In 2012 she founded the Seattle Irish Dance Company, the first professional Irish dance company in the Pacific Northwest.
Carlye sees Irish dance as a living form that goes beyond competition. It can be soft and percussive, and it can learn from other art forms while staying itself. Her current choreography draws on body percussion and the vocabulary of step dance. It invites dancers from different percussive traditions to build a shared physical language together.
📆Thursday Nov. 5, 6:30-8pm
📍Chicago Irish Dance Studio
👯For Beginner & Novice dancers
A workshop set to an original composition called Breath. Drawing from festival-style Irish dance, contemporary, and ballet, we’ll work on movement that’s flowing and graceful, with plenty of room to find your own expression. We will explore phrasing, musicality, and moving with the music.
📆Thursday, Nov. 5, 8-9:30pm
📍Chicago Irish Dance Studio
👯For Intermediate/Advanced dancers
An intensive for Irish dancers curious about what happens when percussive traditions meet. Working barefoot from the vocabulary of step dance, we’ll borrow from Appalachian clogging, tap, and traditional drumming to explore movement that’s percussive and still graceful, flowing, and expressive.
