I was born in Princeton, NJ, but raised in a suburb of Minneapolis.

I grew up sailing in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter, in the spring and fall my dad and I would go out and take pictures.

Medium low-angle documentary portrait framed through a black server rack frame. A technician wearing clear safety glasses, a baseball cap with an attached headlamp, and a branded grey t-shirt reaches upward to route cabling. Warm background plywood contrasts with cool artificial work lights, highlighting metallic textures, cable lines, and focused, upward facial tension. Here’s a shot from a recent gig. I like to ride the line between dramatic moments and planned shots. Often the best stuff comes in between the two. For this shot we had an actress playing a dentist holding the dental instrument close to her patients (also and actor) mouth, as he sits in a dental chair looking concerned with what may come next. The direct eye contact, natural expression and vulnerability of the subjects makes it easy to connect with them. I like keeping photos neat and clean with natural looking soft light, nice crisp focus and natural colors. So it can look as if I just happened to walk in on this scene. Almost like street photography or documentary photography, but with a more cinematic flair. The room was propped out with all the tell tale signals of a real dentists office like a computer and dental tools in a crisp clean sterile environment. To complete the story the photo tells.
