Grand opening party of .launch

has created something really special in the West Loop of Chicago. He has combined creativity and connectivity back into the Retail space. I’ve been lucky enough to get one of the spots inside of his space to showcase my brand Surreal Cycling.

Operation Hawaii

Filming on the beautiful island of Maui take center stage the next 10 days. After a few interviews with drone photographers, I was introduced to Ketch.

I knew within the first two minutes that he was my man. He’s crafty, authentic and has just the right amount of crazy to add to our brewing pot of creativity.

We spent the last 2 1/2 months scouting locations. I then created and curated the soundtracks to each location. What you’re going to get is a very diverse look, feel and sound of the island so that you can ride in some truly dynamic areas and feel the power of this island.

I’m sure they’ll be some surprises along the way.

Dibs.

Possibly the most divisive topic in Chicago.

For those of you who don’t live here, Dibs is where people put out objects on the street to save their parking spot. This “claims” the spot that they have shoveled is theirs for an undetermined amount of time.

Dibs has long created fights amongst neighbors. People have gone as far as collecting Dib furniture off the streets and selling it on craigslist.

The person that identifies with taking dibs a.k.a. taking over a parking spot for fear that they will not be able to find another spot is suffering from a scarcity mindset…

- There’s not enough parking in my neighborhood so I will take what I can get. Now
- What I do get, I’m going to hoard and protect it. (Enter furniture 🪑)
-This mindset is driven by fear.
-This mindset is driven by lack.

And once I started to understand this I could identify with that and I could also have compassion for these people. Because I am guilty of having a scarcity driven mindset all over my life.
When it comes to things with health and fitness there are times where I put off going to the doctor when I should, I put off my dentist appointments. I don’t buy certain things at certain times even though I need them for a healthier body. I’m guilty as charged.

You see a scarcity mindset is a mind that is operating by fear.

You do it in your training by training too much right before a race because you’re scared that you didn’t do the work.

You do it with your nutrition when you overthink your choices during the holidays when in reality you should be focused on the other 95% of the year.

You do it by saying there’s not enough time to…. Fill in the blank. You are scarce with your time.

So I ask you today where in your fitness & health world are you having a scarcity mindset?

Hard work is why it feels so good.

A work out that as well orchestrated and well crafted is very similar to a piece played by a symphony.

The piece has crescendos, valleys, simmering points, and then it has a peak followed by the come down.

It takes your hard work to be able to enjoy every single aspect of a workout. So many people are looking for just the peak and only the peak. If that were the case, we would go watch a symphony to play for us the one minute section of the peak. We’d miss all the pieces that create the journey.

Your workout is no different. All the pieces are important. All the pieces create your masterpiece.

Every workout is a piece of art. And when that workout is carefully crafted and executed upon, there’s a moment at the end of pure gratitude.

Gratitude comes from doing the fu***ng work required.

It cannot be bought. It can not be delivered to your front door.

This form if gratitude is only earned.
